We stayed at Cory's place for 4 nights, and found it to be very convenient, even without a car. All in all, this location worked very well. It is spacious and nicely equipped for a visit to Chicago. We walked to the grocery for food items and wine, and also explored a bit of Oak Park. Do check out Urban Adventure Quest if you want to do something unique and challenging for a day in the city. A fun scavenger hunt /self-walking tour at your own pace. This trip was just the mini-break we so needed!
prompt to answer inquiries
excellent grocery within walking distance
plenty of hot water for showers
well-equipped kitchen w dishwasher
table and chairs on back deck
large windows and lots of light
helpful neighbors upstairs
close to Green Line
Also want to mention:
this is someone's actual residence, not a unit dedicated specifically for guests
no drawer space in dressers for our clothing
fridge contained the owners' food and therefore had limited space
there is no TV (we used wi-fi and our laptops to view movies)
we stumbled on a Saturday farmer's market, wish we had known this before going to the grocery!
water gets very hot, both in kitchen and bath, use caution
we learned that this house sits just inside the Chicago city limits (Austin neighborhood), and it's not Oak Park, which was an issue for taxis.
use Lyft or Uber instead! simple, fast, and much cheaper
a light-weight blanket for those prefer a cooler option to the warmth of a duvet/comforter
leave some instructions about trash, recycling
a list of phone numbers, like emerg, or nearest hospital; local taxi; etc.
information binder with maps and restaurant brochures, community info
guest book for comments, favorite finds, and ideas to share with other guests
Thank you, we had a great time.
