Archer City is home to Booked Up - open Thur-Sat 1-5 or during weekdays by appointment. Booked Up began its life in March 1971 on a corner in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. where it ran for 22 years. In Archer City today it is still run and shelved by Larry McMurtry and home to more than 150,000 books. The Royal Theater and downtown square was setting for the 1971 motion picture, The Last Picture Show, and 1991 motion picture, Texasville. The theater was renovated in 2000 into a community arts venue which is now home to several musical productions, live theater and arts education workshops. There's always something going on at one of the local eateries in town, Murn's Cafe, Lucky's or the Dairy Queen.
Everything is walking distance from the Dairy Queen to the Dollar Store. Bring your bike. Wide shoulders on road between Archer City and Windthorst - 11 miles, makes for a nice ride. Also local airport service for small planes. I will arrange a pickup if you fly in, but it too is only a mile walk.
Pets allowed, only keep them with you or crated when away.

Favorite destinations: New York, Paris, Patagonia, Ecuador, Italy, Vietnam. Three of those are still on the list, the others I'd go back to any time. Really want to go to Fogo Island. But pretty happy to be living in one of my favorite destinations. No better place to call home.
