This bright studio space is in a section of our home's basement. It has a private entrance, lots of space and natural light. Please look at our reviews. Granite countertops, bathroom with large shower, and rustic, wood-look tiles on the floor. With a lockbox on the entrance, you can arrive at any time during your booking and come and go as you please. Linens, towels and comfy pillows are provided. There's a kitchenette stocked with everything you need to prepare meals and a dining area so you can buy food at the local Harris Teeter or Whole Foods and eat in. We provide pots and pans, flatware and glasses. Our rate is comparable to what others charge for a simple bedroom, and it is well below the nightly rate for a local hotel.

You have a separate entrance and can come and go as you please. This space is a spacious studio apartment in our home's basement. There is free street parking with a dashboard placard we will lend you. You can request to use our washer and dryer--just let us know when you need it.

We are available to help you with whatever you need. We both work during the week, so we're around in the mornings and evenings during the week. Soraya travels into DC every weekday and can give you are ride. Just ask us when you get here. You are welcome to enjoy our front porch and can let your pet run around our fenced in yard. We like to interact with guests and tell them about the area, but are also happy for guests to pursue their interests on their own.

The Addison Heights/Aurora Highlands neighborhood was built mostly in the 30s and 40s as a suburb of Washington DC. Like most pre-WWII streetcar neighborhoods, it is very walkable and the houses are spaced fairly close together. We have lots of 30's bungalows mixed with 40's suburban-style homes. and a few mcmansions. When Metro came in the 1970s, the Arlington County Government worked hard to preserve single family neighborhoods even as tall buildings rose around Metro stations. As a result, the neighborhood has very tall buildings on its edges. Fortunately we of have lots parks, open spaces, shopping, and a library nearby. There area is referred to as Pentagon City because of the Metro Station and, of course, it is within walking distance of the Pentagon. Crystal City is a close 15 minute walk, and Reagan National Airport is a short cab or Uber ride away.

Parking is on the street using a special pass during the week. You can park right on S. Joyce St. across from the studio. We are close to I-395, Rte 50 (Arlington Blvd.), and Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway). The Pentagon City Metro Station is under 10 minutes by foot with access to DC, Reagan National Airport, Union Station, and the Amtrak Station in Alexandria. Capital Bikeshare and Zip Cars are also within close walking distance. The Crystal City Hotels are about a 15 minute walk from our house, so you can attend your conference, but save the high hotel rates.

We are pet friendly! You might hear our cocker spaniel, Charlie, bark once or twice, especially the mail carrier comes by. Our studio has a separate entrance, and different locks from the rest of the house. The door between the studio and the rest of the house is closed and locked for your privacy. We have installed special insulation and to keep noise down, and guests have an alarm clock/sound machine to mask any household noise during the day and evening. Fortunately, three of our four teenagers have moved out, and the days of loud music and stomping around have come to an end! The unit is heated and cooled from the house HVAC, but there is also window air conditioner, a radiant space heater, and a fan for your comfort.

Rick is American and Soraya from Spain. We have tried to maintain bilingual/bi-cultural home. We just love Arlington County and the Washington DC area. There are so many places to visit here with free concerts, cultural festivals, and performances. The "urban village" concept promoted locally is great--neither too suburban nor too urban. We like going to local natural areas and are always discovering new places! We use the local bike trails a lot, and both enjoy travel. With the last of our four children still living at home, we are still very busy with day-to-day life but also looking forward to being empty nesters. Although not very active at the moment, Rick is a licensed real estate agent.
