I arrived in Alaska in 1984 after graduating from UC Santa Barbara but I originally hail from the San Francisco Bay Area. Since I've been here, I've been a dog musher doing tours in the back country and worked on boats; I fished, deck handed, cooked and ultimately captained boats for 10 years. For the last 21 years I've done motivational assemblies in schools all over the west coast during the winter months, summers I created a tour of this quaint town through Princess Lodge! My partner Mike is from Big Timber, MT and after a stint in Sand Point, AK in the 80's, he raised a family in MT then came back to Alaska where we met, and the rest is, as they say, 'history'! We enjoy travel which includes hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru, hiking, geocaching and riding our bikes up to the Russian Falls for dip netting salmon to fill our freezer for the winter! He is an expert craftsman carpenter and the one responsible for the awesome tile work in shower and the special touches in the construction! The welcoming committee here consists of our 'kids', "Cabo" and "Willow" and new addition, "Vixen". They will undoubtedly make you feel like you are the most important thing in the world, so hey, enjoy it!
I'll end with my favorite quote I share with all the students I present to:
"To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your own path and don't worry about the darkness, for that is when stars shine the brightest".
