Our experience was terrible from start to finish.
Beginning with the mildly unprofessional, the host cancelled our planned meet up to check in ten minutes beforehand, promised to come by later, then failed to show up again. I texted her for two full days with questions about our stay, including important information about checkout, and received absolutely no reply.
More disconcertingly, the home is not as described. Since I was traveling with a young child, I specifically sought out homes listed as family-friendly and not as potentially unsafe for infants and young children. Imagine my shock to find a large hole between the first and second floors with no safety railing. Even a large child could fall through! Moreover, multiple window wells showed chipped and flaking paint — likely lead-based, given the age of the home, and extremely unsafe for young children — and I quickly learned that a dog lived there due to a strong allergic reaction, though none is listed in this profile.
Most shocking of all, when the host and I had a disagreement about what constituted fair payment for an unorthodox checkout situation — a situation directly caused by her lack of communication — she did not seek resolution through Airbnb's official channels, in what I can only assume was an effort to hide her multiple failures as a host from official scrutiny. Instead, she contacted me repeatedly on my personal phone days after checkout, piling on falsehoods and becoming increasingly irate, trying to bully me into doing what she wanted. I was eventually forced to block her number and report her to Airbnb for harassment.
Learn from my experience and stay far, far away. This is not a home you want to stay in with kids or a dog allergy, this is not a host you can depend on, and this is not a person you want with access to your name and phone number… trust me.
