À propos de ce logement

Beautiful custom log home with 1600' frontage on a deep peaceful river in North New Portland Maine. Great fishing, swimming, canoeing (we provide canoe and dock) and wildlife make this wonderful private getaway. Weekly rental only.

Le logement

Enjoy complete privacy in our lovely custom log home situated on 20 acres of fields and woods with fantastic frontage on navigable Gilman Stream. Paddle for miles up to Gilman Pond and beyond (canoe provided!) or simply fish and swim off our dock or sit on our nice patio or in the sun room and watch the wildlife.

You won't see another neighbor from your getaway but you are still close enough to Farmington or charming Kingfield to enjoy the restaurants, catch a movie, or check out the stores. Or follow Long Falls Dam Road up to Flagstaff Lake to see the falls, go moose watching, fish the Dead River or catch the Appalachian Trail. For other boating and fishing options, the mighty Kennebec and Carrabasset Rivers are just a short distance away.

This home has wonderful cathedral ceilings in the living room, a large well-appointed kitchen, three bedrooms (one king, one double, and two twins), two baths, a laundry room and large two car garage. There is a TV with a good movie selection via Netflix instant download but we do not have cable television. We do offer high speed wireless internet.

Location was perfect for our group, lots of land and privacy. Cabin has plenty of room to comfortably fit 6 people, including dining, kitchen and living room areas and it isn't crowded with "stuff" which was a big bonus. I would highly recommend this place to any group of 6 looking to get away and spend some time on the stream. Great fishing!!

This log home on Gilman Stream is a little slice of heaven. If you love the outdoors this is a perfect home for your vacation. The Appalachian Trial is 25 minutes away, zip lining at Sugarloaf is fabulous and kayaking on Flagstaff lake is absolutely beautiful. Plus, Quill Hill and the Ira mountain overlooks are breath taking and a must do! The properties setting was peaceful, secluded, beautiful and is true to the description listed on Airbnb. You do not even have to leave the property to have fun. The dock is a fabulous bonus, we used it everyday. We swam and fished daily and took the canoe out a couple of times to see the wildlife. The stars are amazing and we loved going to sleep listing to the frogs and waking up to the birds and wildlife (we saw deer during our stay). Amy's home is a home away from home and we can't wait to do it again next year.

The cabin was in a lovely setting (quiet locale but not isolated). First, the pros: -The cabin could comfortably fit 6 people. -There were games, fishing poles, sunscreen and bug spray, life jackets and some travel books for the area. -The lake was a short walk, and the canoe and swimming were great. -In July, we were able to pick fresh strawberries. -A general store was just up the road for essentials. A big supermarket is 45 minutes away in Waterville. -The caretaker was nearby, informative and was very helpful. Just two cons: -The cabin itself was tough for light sleepers. The upstairs king bedroom was loft-like, open and overlooking the living area. If anyone was making noise in the kitchen, living room or dining room down below, it transferred upstairs. A creaking or clicking of some sort could be heard in the king bedroom when it was quiet at night. Also, some bedroom windows were missing blinds, so it got light early and therefore made sleeping in hard. -The cabin wasn’t as clean or as well maintained as I’ve come to expect with Airbnb. All in all, it was a relaxing vacation, great location, spacious home.

Wonderful stay. Quintessential Maine cabin in the woods. Beautiful place and location. Some issues with utilities at first which were quickly taken care of. Amy is very responsive.

The house was wonderful, well equipped and spacious. The proximity of the river and the access to a dock and canoe was also a great asset. We needed to get away from it all and it was a right location. My daughter had a new born with us. It was very good for the baby, fresh air and nature.

About the owners: Bob and Amy are no strangers to travel. They have been splitting their years between summers in Maine and winters in Arizona for quite some time now. Presently they are settled in Phoenix, Arizona, but they still yearn for those glorious Maine summers. Rather than give up their great Maine home, they've decided to open it up for folks like themselves who want a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of the woods, fields, stream and wildlife their New Portland getaway has to offer. Bob is a physician assistant and is presently teaching other PAs at a medical university in Mesa, Arizona. Amy has been in the home remodeling business for the past 15 years and prior to that has co-owned and operated a couple of bed and breakfasts on the Maine coast. She oversaw the restoration of this log cabin and brought it back from a very sad state to its present lovely and comfortable condition.
