Right on the beach, here is an ideal choice for nature lovers, willing to have a morning tea contemplating the sunrise on the sea. A simple but charming room, with an outdoor bathroom and a shady garden to chill out, welcome to Sandy Feet Homestay!
Sandy Feet Homestay is a small cottage on Kallady beach. It has 2 bedrooms, one being occupied by Sandrine, your host.
Your private space is therefore the back side bedroom, equipped with wooden furniture including a queen size bed (5 ft x 6.5 ft) with mosquito net, a bookshelf and a cupboard. Natural ventilation and sea breeze keep the place relatively cool, and a ceiling fan is available for the guests' comfort.
You have a private outdoor bathroom, under the stars, attached to your room, with western toilets.
Accès des voyageurs
You have a shared access to the hall and kitchenette, where you can cook light meals if you wish (otherwise, tasty Sri Lankan meals can be prepared by our neighbor). In case you come with children, there is a couch in the hall that can be used during the night as a single bed. An additional mattress can also be provided.
There is also a shared indoor bathroom (shower and sink) that you might prefer to use in case of rainy weather.
A common garden tap allows you to do your laundry outside and to dry it in the garden.
Except at midday, there are always shady places in the garden to put an easy chair and relax with a good book and a cup of tea.
In summer season, there might be one or 2 tents in the backside of the garden, which should not compromise your privacy, given the setup of the house.
There is a water filter that filters and chlorinates the water, so it is perfectly safe for you to drink it. We usually filter the water and put it in the fridge so that anytime, you can get safe and cool drinking water. We encourage the guests to refill their bottles and drink this water, to save money, and the environment...
Gentle reminder: what you are about to book is a homestay, not a guesthouse or a hotel. Local houses generally have rooms that are quite small, which is adapted to the local families’ lives, but might be uncomfortable for guests coming from wealthier contexts. Therefore if you need large rooms, luxury beds or hot water and this is obviously not described in the listing, we do encourage you to find a place which is more convenient for your material needs, rather than booking one of our homestays with expectations that cannot be met in a family home and ending up dissatisfied. Thanks for your understanding...
Since the homestay is in the village of Kallady, which is not really a tourist place, we kindly request our guests to show some cultural sensitivity. The dress code is especially important to be accepted by the local community living around the homestay. On the beach, it is preferable that females keep a T-shirt and shorts for bathing, since it is a local beach, in a quite conservative community.
The homestay is an ideal place for nature lovers, who enjoy relaxing in a calm environment. Therefore, we kindly ask guests who would like to party or to drink alcohol, not to book our homestay. Sandy Feet Homestay is a non smoking homestay, please do not smoke inside the premises.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sandrine, your host, works in East N' West on board, a travel agency based in Batticaloa. She might be there (or not!) during your stay. You might share a meal or have a good chat under the tree, but there will be room for privacy also, since her workload might not always allow her to spend too much time with guests.
At Eastern Homestay, we intend to put in touch guests from around the world with our local families willing to offer homestay facilities. By travelling with us, you contribute to our aim of creating economic opportunities for local communities.
While you enjoy chatting with your hosts and discovering their environment, don’t forget one thing! You are providing them an income and stability that enables their children to grow safely and study further, without their parents migrating abroad because of the lack of local economic opportunities. Thanks for this!
Being part of a travel agency named East N' West on Board, Eastern Homestay can definitely keep you busy during your stay with guided bicycle rides, village tours, cooking and fishing classes, etc...
We hope to see you soon... in our "Homestay, Sweet Homestay!"
