It has a beautifully finished light oak interior. My fiancee and I will also stay onboard with you. The second berth is suited for a couple, a single or up to three small children. The third and forth person can be accommodated on the two day beds in the common living area. The barge has an ample galley (kitchen) with a gas hob, oven and fridge. It also features an open floor-plan, an antique log burner and cosy central heating, and a large wet-room, with shower, sink and toilet. The rooftop deck has outdoor furniture for al fresco dining.

Upon your arrival I will meet you and show you around the boat.
My fiancee, and I sleep in the main berth in the aft (back) portion of the "O". We will mostly be on the boat. We will be available to assist you by phone or text when we're not on the "O".
If you like, we can share meals with you. I will be happy to cook and clean, but we will need to split costs on victuals.
We love meeting people and sharing our home with them. Do please let us know if you just want some peace and quiet, we're perfectly fine with that too.

Autres remarques

PLEASE NOTE: We have recently encountered mooring restrictions in Windsor. We have many other excellent options that are within a 5-10 minute drive, or a short train ride away from Windsor and Eton Riverside station. We'll discuss mooring options and a rendezvous point depending on our current location.
Airbnb doesn't allow me to move the barge with guests on board, but before you check-in or after you check-out, I can oftentimes take you out for a short jaunt on the river. If you like, you can even try steering the boat, (under supervision of course). I would appreciate 50 pounds to offset direct operating costs. This is only before you check in or after you checkout and is not associated with Airbnb.
Those new to the boating life will have a wonderful and fun time. However, please be aware that it is not like being in a house or hotel in terms of water and electricity use. For instance, we have a lovely strong shower, but because water is stored on the boat in a tank and not connected to the mains water supply, there is 20 minutes worth of water for showering per day. We must divide that amongst our group. Being off grid, the boat's electrical system has limited power. Therefore, appliances over 650W will not work. These include hairdryers, curling tongs, toasters, the grill and irons. We do have a petrol generator that can run most small appliances of up to 1500W. We ask for an additional £10 donation for using the generator to cover the petrol costs.
Absolutely no smoking on or around the boat.
While children will enjoy a great, fun time on the boat, please be aware, as with any river location, it requires extra vigilance from parents of young children, or non-swimmers.
Presently, our fully functional porthole windows do not yet have a decorative trim finish on the inside.
For people over 6 foot 1 inch, please note that the ceiling height on the boat is 6 foot 2 inches.
The internal space is 450 square feet.
We have light breakfast supplies, tea, coffee, jam, butter, cereal, bread and milk for you.
We have towels and bathroom products for your use, environmentally friendly shower gels, shampoos etc.
We have no washing machine. If you require laundry or ironing services, we can direct you to the nearest launderette or dry cleaners.
On rare occasions I may need to move the boat to fill up the water tank. This takes about two hours. We can work out a convenient time for you.
On rarer occasions, (usually when there has been a period of heavy rain, or strong winds,) boat owners are advised by the Environment Agency not to move the vessel, except under exceptional circumstances because of the river conditions. Also, sometimes certain locks are temporarily closed for repair. So we cannot guarantee a specific mooring location in those circumstances. British weather and lock repair sometimes dictate that we change our plans and just moor safely where we are.
Fishing is permitted on the Thames during the season, which is anytime, except between 15th March to 15th June. A Rod license is needed to fish from the boat.
Please try to feed the swans healthy food! They absolutely adore bread, but it is unhealthy for them.
Unfortunately, the boat is not wheelchair accessible.

Please note: We use Airbnb as a way to meet new friends. We love to have our friends stay with us and enjoy showing them Old Father Thames. All monies are donations and contributions to cover the direct expenses of operating the launch during your excursion/stay.

A big thank you to Bobby and Helena. We stayed on their Dutch barch called the ONION ( great name) on our 3 day walk along the Thames Path. It was an excellent way to enhance our experience of life on the river. They were so accomodating and moored the boat in the best place for us . We also got a ride up the river to our next destination!! The boat is nice and comfortable and gave us a real insight of living an alternative lifestyle! We can really recommend it!! Ruth

My husband and I had a fantastic stay on the onion. Bobby and Helena are brilliant hosts who you feel like you've known forever right after meeting them. They were so accommodating from the communication beforehand about the trip right through to the stay itself and making sure it suited our needs and was the best trip it could be for us. We will definitely be back to stay on the onion with Bobby and Helena again! And we recommend you do too!!

It was wonderful to spend two nights on the River Thames. Barge life is different and varied, seeing a kingfisher, grebes , a baby moorhen and grey heron all close by with regular fly pasts of geese. It was lovely as well as having our fish and chips supper on the roof table. Bobby and Helena were delightful hosts and made us and our 15 and 12 yr old grandchildren very welcome.

Fabulous and fun. First time on a wide barge and it was well worth it. Most enjoyable hosts and we enjoyed everything about our stay, especially breakfast up top under the umbrella you see in the picture. Will endeavour to do this one again!!

Really brilliant stay aboard the Onion. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone as a cheaper and quirky way to stay on the Thames. The mooring in Windsor was brilliant- the closest the Thames gets to Windsor Castle (2 min walk). You should know that the 'second birth' option probably isn't so great if you're looking for high levels of privacy as the hosts stay on the boat so you share living space (don't worry, they're very nice and incredibly accommodating).

Five star experience on board of the 'O'! We were in Windsor for the night because of a wedding. Bobby made sure the boat was moored so close to the venue, that we could basically roll straight into the berth afterwards. Bobby and Helena are lovely hosts and it was a pleasure staying with them. The boat is spacious and clean. The next day we went on the 'O' to Maidenhead, which was a beautiful trip on the Thames and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I am very happy to be an Airbnb Superhost. My fiancee and I enjoy hosting and making new friends. We love meeting people from all over the world and sharing conversations and life stories. We use Airbnb to facilitate these meetings. Many of our guests plan to return and we are honoured to count them among our friends.
Our intentions are to ensure you have a magical stay on our barge on the River Thames. The river is beautiful, awesome, peaceful and ever changing. A ribbon of beauty winding through the English countryside.
I am currently in sales. Previously, I was a pilot flying both military and commercial aircraft. I enjoy golf, hiking, fishing, camping, singing, dancing and stargazing. My fiancee is in the arts. She enjoys theatre, literature, golf and tea.
We are thankful for the opportunity to live on the river. You support this dream by sharing it and the operating costs with us. Thank you for your bookings and your generous donations.
