Description

The peace, the tranquility, the exquisite beauty of the countryside make this an ideal family get-away or retreat for friends. Hiking, biking, swimming, skiing and other activities abound. Sail on our lake with our homemade sabot! Pick fresh berries in the summer and enjoy the full greenhouse of homegrown food. Our caretaker can provide you with eggs from the hen house each morning. Our house is a converted barn, situated in complex of buildings at a 16th century mill, located on a lake in the Bohemian countryside, isolated and peaceful. We are artists, an architect and eco-farmers. Fresh food available from the garden in the summer months. One hour west of the the German border in Czech Republic. The nearest town, Horazdovice, is a 10-minute drive away. We are two hours from Prague and about 4 driving hours from Munich. Great winter skiing in our local mountains, just 30 minutes away. Berlin and Vienna nearby.

The complex is a creative hodgepodge of structures, including the mill, a barn, former stables and various outbuildings, totaling about 7,000 square meters, or 75,350 square feet. The family has converted the stables into its quarters, creating a living room, kitchen and pantry, library, three bedrooms and two bathrooms in contemporary style. The family grows most of its own vegetables, and the family’s chickens produce eggs. We host international study programs in the summer time. Read about us in the New York
We would love to welcome you to our old mill and make sure you will enjoy your stay here with us. A caretaker is on the property to answer questions and help with any language difficulties. And prepare meals if desired.

Public buses run regularly to our nearby village (10 minute walk away); buses and trains to Prague are from Horazdovice, (10 minutes by car from the mill). Shopping and restaurants in the charming towns of Susice and Horazdovice with museums, galleries and other musical cultural events regularly. A short hike through the forest brings you to a quaint local pub with breathtaking views of the countryside.

Wintertime slopes are a 30 minute drive; ice-skating right out the front door! Summertime swimming and boating on the lake. You can talk the local fishermen into bringing fresh carp to your door. Wood burning stoves in every room make it cozy in winter. A perfect get-away place for quietude and connection to nature.

both houses are available for larger groups. The outside barn area is available for fires and grilling. No access to the mill itself and the workshops in the lower area.

Our caretaker is there everyday to help out

Rural and 1 kilometer from the nearest village, we are surrounded by forests and the lake. Romantic idyll!

If you need to take public transportation, there are buses daily from the nearest villages (1 kilometer either way down the road). Possible to walk it.
