***BICYCLING ENTHUSIASTS***: The cottage is about a mile from the beginning of the Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System. Ride over 45 miles of paved trails connecting Boulder Junction with Manitowish Waters (west) and Sayner and St. Germain (south). The trail is fully paved and appropriate for all types of bicycles. The system includes the popular Crystal Lake Trail, which runs from downtown Boulder Junction past Trout Lake to the Crystal Lake Campground, where you’ll find a picnic area and beach. The new west portion of the trail is host to multiple scenic bridges and crosses over the rapids of the Manitowish River and Rice Creek. Also along this part of the trail system is Nichols Beach, a great place for picnicking and swimming.

WiFi access is provided. The playground, fire pit, and wooded area and state woods can be seen from your window. The water can be seen from every room in the cabin. A paddleboat and canoe are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Basketball, volleyball and other toys, games, and equipment are available. There is a fish cleaning house with a freezer, electricity, and sink for your use. We have 665 feet of shoreline in the resort you would have access to. You will love having a cup of coffee on the screened-in porch in the morning watching the sunrise or a glass of wine in the evening. TAKE A CRANBERRY TOUR. Since 1995, Wisconsin has produced the largest crop of cranberries -- currently, about 57% of the United States' total production. One 1-hour tour is given at 10 am each Friday (early July-late September) rain or shine. This free tour starts at the Chamber/Community Center for the first half-hour to showcase a video, free cranberry samples, prizes & drawings, educational display, along with Q&A. Then motorcade in your vehicle to the Vilas Cranberry Co. marsh for an up-close look at the bogs -- growing, blooming or being harvested depending on the time of year you visit. Cranberries are harvested in the fall. Cranberry Colorama (last Saturday of September) has free shuttle buses from the Community Center to the marsh.

Spend a day or half day at COPPER FALLS STATE PARK, a well kept secret 63 miles from the cottage near Mellen, WI. Ancient lava flows, deep gorges and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. Has several 1-2 mile easy hikes with awesome views of the falls. Also great for mountain biking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking and picnicking.

Autres remarques

This cottage stands on the peaceful Manitowish River between Rest Lake and Stone Lake which is a mandated NO-WAKE zone, assuring quality fishing off the pier and friendly waving at the slow-moving boats as they pass by quietly at the posted speed limit that protects the shorelines. Wisconsin has a building code requiring all new construction to be 75 ft. back from the water's edge. The cottage is only 25 ft. back and the forest of trees in your view are state woods so the view from this cabin is forevermore ensured.

Please keep the noise down after 9pm to ensure people in neighboring cottages can relax in peace and get a good night's sleep!

Check out time has got to be at 9am sharp. While we realize this is stringently early, the housekeeper charges us an extra $50 if she arrives and the guest not checked out, and we have no choice but to pass this charge on to the guest. Good, reliable housekeepers are hard to find in this rural of an area. We hope to make the checkout time later in the future, but for now it is 9am sharp.

Mary's cabin on the Manitowish River was just what I was hoping for. It's not fancy but as a fishing cabin it was the best I've ever stayed in. Very clean and well laid out. Plenty of dishes and pots and pans, etc. A refrigerator with a freezer, a microwave, wi-fi and a hot water heater that works. And a stove that easily warms the cabin on chilly nights. And the location was wonderful. It's actually on the river, not far from Stone Lake and access to 10 other lakes. The river in front of the cabin is a "slow/no wake " zone so boaters go by as if on parade. But for the most part it's very quiet and secluded. And Mary Sullivan is a most gracious host. Very responsive and there if you need her. She was a delight to work with. It's not the Waldorf and don't expect a mint on your pillow but if you're a fisherman like me and looking for a good location to fish from this is the place. (By the way, the fishing was great.) I hope to go back again next year.

The cottage location was nice and scenery gorgeous, however the cabins were a little close together for my taste. We were told a key would be inside cabin and it was not. We had no key the first night of our stay. We had a reception dinner to attend that evening. I contacted the host (who is not present) and she said to leave the cabin unlocked. She stated she would have a key delivered to us at 9AM the next morning. She recommended locking our valuables in our car for the evening. The host should have gotten a key to us that evening! The bathroom is very small (which I expected) however it appeared the sink was not cleaned, it was full of men's shavings. There was one canoe available to use, which was nice. Unfortunately, it was full of water from rain. The host said we would have to pail the water out ourselves if we wanted to use it. The area for the most part was quiet, however the last night we were there, we were awoken at 3AM by loud yelling and hollering. A bunch of drunk guys were a few cabins down. I yelled at them to keep it down. They got in their car and left, while blasting their horn the entire time. Nothing like being woke up the last night you are there at 3AM, when check out is 9AM. Check out is too early!!! 10-11 AM is fair. 9AM is ridiculous when everyone needs to shower and get packed. There are many other cabins in the area for rent, I recommend checking them out.

We are new at Airbnb and obviously will strive to be better. Unfortunately in the Northwoods, housekeepers are VERY hard to find and we are dependent on them to do their job right. What happened to this guest was unacceptable. Lack of key: key was accidentally taken home by housekeeper. We will now keep a backup key on the premises. Not possible to bring key that night as housekeeper was not available. If the housekeeper had been available, I certainly would have arranged for them to bring the key to you immediately. This was a fluke incident that had never happened before. Sink full of men’s shavings: absolutely unacceptable. Have spoken with housekeeper to make sure this is not missed in the future. Canoe full of rain water: beyond our control, bailing it out is part of the Northwoods experience. Loud drunks at 3am on one night: Agree with guest that this is unacceptable but also EXTREMELY RARE. Usually very quiet, as was noted by guest. The reason you come to the Northwoods is peace & quiet, and we understand that. If the inconsiderate drunks drove away at 3 am, that is a good indication that they were not even renting in the resort. We are investigating with other cottages in the area. Checkout time of 9am: This is clearly posted in House Rules which guest agreed to follow when booking. However, as is clearly posted on our listing, we strongly agree with guest that a 9am checkout is too early, but right now we have no choice. We are now on our 3rd housekeeper this year. She has up to 6 cabins to clean between 9a-3p (so that the next guest can check in at 3pm) and charges us an extra $50 and threatens to quit if a guest is inside the cabin after 9am. Will take this issue up and hopefully change checkout time for next year to later. Thank you for complimenting our cottage location, which I agree is one of the nicest and most gorgeous locations around the Manitowish Chain.

We had a great time at the fisherman's cottage with our family. Small, simple, and cozy, but with enough room to move around comfortably, even with 4 teenage boys! We enjoyed spending most of our time relaxing on the screen porch with the boys busy fishing, swimming, and riding around in the paddle boat and canoe. The weather did get a bit too rainy and humid for our liking toward the end of our stay, but we still had a wonderful time!

Instant booking was made by Melissa 18 days before her arrival. Another guest made a reservation for the same dates 1 hour before Melissa did through the local Chamber of Commerce. We are new to airbnb and profusely and humbly apologize to Melissa. Due to our error, we tried to offer Melissa a 50% discount for any other dates of her choosing , but were unable to communicate with her any further due to airbnb's restrictions after a cancellation is made.
