I stayed here with my mum and a friend. It is a lovely place to stay. Friendly and helpful hosts. Comfortable rooms, safe area, well kitted kitchen, friendly pets, flushing toilet and warm shower. There's a comfortable outdoor area too with a hammock and sofa. It's a 10-15 minute walk down the hill to several shops, and scrumptious rolexes (we recommend the Jesus Alpha and Omega ones). And then a short boda boda ride back up the the hill. Uber taxis work well, and Elke and Theis have recommendations for private hires too.

I stayed at Elke's with two colleagues on a retreat to get some work done. We worked elsewhere but Elke's place was very comfortable to come back to at meal times and rustle up a quick meal to eat outside under the Bougainvillea. The shops and restaurants of Makindye Hill are ten minutes walk away. Our stay was very successful and we got lots done in this quiet location away from the bustle Kampala. The road is good for jogging as well and you will not be alone! Elke and Thies were very welcoming and the rooms were perfect for us.

I don’t think we could have found a more perfect home for our short stay in Kampala (only 7 days) but also for a longer stay I could advice this B&B unwaveringly (so for tourists as well as for a more small business stay). The place is a bit hard to find the first time (even the boda-boda people had some troubles) but it’s a haven of peace in this chaotic capital situated on the Makindye Hill above the level of the smog and the street noise. The bedroom is basic but very clean with a comfortable double bed and a solid mattress. Adjacent a spacious private bathroom with a shower and toilet in good working order. Outside a roomy kitchen for the guests fitted out with all the basic conveniences. All over the place is free Wi-Fi reception (which is not so fast as in Europe, but keep in mind you are in Africa…;-)) Local shopping and a very nice coffee house is at 10’ distance by feet and taking a (safe) boda-boda you are in about 15’ in the center of the town. We had a special ‘mission’ to visit Kampala and Elke and her husband Thies have spent a lot of time to inform us about all we wanted to know. They are exceptionally reliable and open people who are willing to give you their personal views on sometimes complicated issues. Very important: mountain bikers, this is your place to be! Time was too short for me alas, I haven’t had the opportunity but Thies has his own business the ‘Red Dirt Uganda Mountain bike Centre’ (with mountain bike tours and trips, sale of mountain bikes and parts and mountain bike training)! Unique in Kampala!!! For believe me it’s hard to find a decent bicycle…. Last but not least: they have 3 sweet dogs and two cats. Don’t be afraid of them, they are really charming and overall very quiet (but not for invaders…). And Tucker, the kind night watchman, keeps also a look-out!

I stayed with Elke and Thies at Mama Babu Guesthouse for two days and I had a wonderful time there. The sleeping room and the private bathroom are very clean and spacious. I also used the well-equipped guest kitchen and the beautiful garden. There is a supermarket just 5 minutes by feet and it takes only some minutes to go to the city centre if you take a boda. Elke and Thies were very helpful as they ordered a taxi to go the airport for example. For these reasons I can highly recommend this accomodation!
