First and foremost, what I was looking for in my heart (and did not verbalize) was exactly what Altagracia provided ... a home! Moving, yes moving, to DR was an idea that made itself clear in January while on vacation (had ideas of moving to a latin country for a few years). A friend recommend Altagracia because of my expectations of making a smooth transition from the US into a culture where I was a fish out of water. Altagracia has proven to be an exceptional host from culture immersion to just simple conversations about life. She will make sure you understand culture, environment, people ... the way life is (Dominican style lol). Altagracia, also affectionately known as "Rosie" is able to make you comfortable even when you can't speak a word of spanish. She has a vast knowledge of everything dominican and is able to communicate the information well. If you like your independence, you got it ... if you require assistance or just want her as a guide ... she is able to provide just that! Every question I had she had either already answered through talking or she will answer as best as possible ... honest, reliable, and clear communication.
I feel my choice in Altagracia's home was a great decision ... su casa es mi casa! Her home is quaint yet spacious and is a typical dominican home (house). She has two (girls) children who are very welcoming and very funny might I add. Altagracia allows you to feelnlike family.
Her neighbors were friendly, and because I wanted everything dominican style, they even helped with learning the culture. There is even a four-legged feline friend who visits daily, however he is never a bother.
There are two bus services to center of the capital that is just steps away from her home; there is also a car service (taxi). This city is alive and there is someone always out even more so, food, music, bars and neighbors are easily accessible and Altagracia will always give you guidance!
Altagracia clearly cares for her guests and is very fair in her work ethics. She has easily become apart of my heart.
