À propos de ce logement
Haldegarte is a mudbrick and timber mansion set in 15 beautiful acres, an amazing zoned and fragrant garden to get lost in with the house and garden frontage overlooking Warburton, Mt Donna Buang and the Yarra Valley. Although secluded, Haldegarte is only two minutes to the village and all its attractions.
Haldegarte is very flexible in its configuration so we can accommodate larger groups comfortably. We have a separate rustic cottage with queen bedroom and ensuite on the premises for an additional cost. Please note that bed linen and towels are not included in quoted fees but can be locally supplied if you's prefer not to bring and make up your own.

Here are a few notes to help you settle in quickly on arrival:
Keys: Keys will be located in the key safe inside the meter box near the car port. You will be sent a combination code once the property is prepared for your stay and the final payment has been made. Please place the keys back in the safe on your departure and we recommend that leaving the keys in the safe on trips out is the safest way to ensure keys are not lost as they are expensive to replace.
Water: Haldegarte was developed to be an eco-sensitive home in a natural setting. We are totally “off-grid” for water so have a limited supply in tanks. We also have a fantastically efficient composting toilet system. Please advise your fellow guests to be vigilant not to leave any taps dripping or running, to take short showers (pretend there’s a drought) and not to put anything but toilet paper down the toilet. Please avoid harsh chemicals like bleach. Our worms work hard and need some TLC!
Parking; there is parking for several cars and for any more than 5, we recommend leaving some on lower paddock or on the roadside leading to the house.
Woodstore; We have both an open fire and an enclosed woodheater in the main living space. You will find ample firewood and kindling in the stacks against the rear face of the house. Help yourself.
The only thing that smokes in the house is the wood heater.....please no smoking at all in the house. If you smoke outside, please dispose of butts carefully.
Linen: Please not that rates don't the provision of linen. However, we have a local service that makes up the beds and provided towels, facewashers etc for $30 per bed room used and supplied with linen. If you are bringing your own linen, you will need top and bottom sheets for the beds you intend to use. There are four queen-sized beds and the king bed can be either a king or two twin king singles. All the doonas have covers that we supply, hence the need for a top sheet. Please also bring pillowslips for the number of pillows you like to use. You’ll also need towels and face-washers.
If you have opted to have us supply linen, we’ll make up the beds and the bathroom linen will be on the beds ready to go.
Broadband: Please feel free to use the broadband.
There are 5 double doors facing out to the spectacular views over the valley. The most used of these are the last of the five as you enter from the car port, being the doors closest to the kitchen.
As you enter, the kitchen is to the right Most thjings are familiar with the exception of the hybrid microwave/oven to the right of the conventional oven. Full instructions are to the left with the collection of recipe books. There are all manner of gismos including pizza makers, toasters, toasted sandwich makers, mixers, microwave (in the cupboard) and a schmick dishwasher too.
There is an honesty system in the pantry/fridge. If you use it all; replace it; if you use a bit add something to compensate but, please nothing perishable inside 1 week.
There are two compartments in the top of the bin section for general waste and the bottom drawer for recyclables. If these get overloaded, there are bins outside under the veranda facing the pond or you can drop bags/boxes/bottles in the bins at the very bottom of the drive on Fantail Rise
The Dining zone runs off the kitchen. TIP: the table is very old and valuable and needs care to avoid leaving marks in the polish. Place mats are in the drawer of the table at the end. Please take care.
The wood-heater is first class. The two brass dampers can get hot when it is in full swing so please use a damp cloth when opening or closing the dampers Leave the door just ajar for the first 20 mins and close the dampers before retiring and it will warm all night.
The laundry is off the dining area and contains a toilet, two cupboards and everything you’ll need for your stay. The wine cellar is private and is not part of the honour system so please do not use and replace from this. You will note that there is a clothes shute from the upstairs bedroom cupboard to the laundry. The laundry door to the outside is separately keyed to the other locks.
The lounge/living area
Sonos - We have a Sonos Wifi system available if you want to stream a radio broadcast wirelessly from the web. You’ll need a laptop, smartphone or ipad and download the free Sonos controller and then connect to the Sonos system by pressing the button on the white box near the modem It’s very easy and means you can steam your iTunes library, stream music from Songl or Spotify or stream any radio station in the world. The wireless speaker is in the main room but it can be moved anywhere in wireless range with care please.
The open fire is excellent but three cautionary notes please:
•Start the fire with materials in the left hand side to create the right Venturi smoke drawing effect and so as not to choke the room with woodsmoke. Once well lit, this problem diminishes greatly.
•The wood in the frame to the right of the fire is for decoration only. Please do not burn it under any circumstances.
•As the fire can pop, please make sure the Ottoman is never directly in front of the fire.
We have several intriguing gadgets and ornaments on the shelves. By all means investigate them but please do handle with care as many are irreplaceable.
We recommend closing all the curtains on cold nights to make the place extra cozy.
The Master Bedroom is above the living area. To darken the room, lower the fireblinds by withdrawing the cords from the self-winding spools on each window.
The remaining rooms are the back bathroom, second and third bedroom and mezzanine loft but they are pretty straight-forward.
There is an electric fence border around the garden to deter deer and kangaroos. Please don’t touch the fence or its controls.
While Warburton gets good rainfall, there are also hot, dry days. If you see any plants in need of a drink, we’d appreciate the “Green Thumbs” helping out.
We are always daunted by huge task of maintaining the wonderful garden and grounds and always appreciate anyone leaving notes with ideas or observations. We have resident wombats, wallabies, rabbits and deer who are slowing our progress with the lawns in particular but such is life in the hills!
• The side paths can become slippery after rain, leaf-fall and overnight dew. Please take care in using any wet or leaf-covered surface.
• In warmer months Haldegarte provides ideal habitat for snakes. Please keep children and animals aware and away from undergrowth as you would anywhere in country areas.
• We provide firewood to guests which is stored in a store to the rear of the house. We can not make this safe especially as wood is used progressively so please keep children clear of this area and do not allow them to climb or play on the stack.
• Please do not enter the fire-bunker unless in an emergency.
• Please do not allow children or animals to venture near the ponds without supervision.
• Always use the woodheater with the door firmly closed and use the fireguard when young children are in this room
• Never cover electric, wood or water heaters with drying clothes.
• While we may occasionally provide the use of bikes or sledges, we cannot be held liable for any injury or loss arising from their use in any circumstance.
• FIRE - We provide a small transistor radio and multiple methods of staying tuned to ABC Radio during periods of fire risk. Warburton is an area of significant fire risk being completely surrounded by forested hills and with only one highway in and out, it is imperative that guests makes themselves aware of the location of the CFA, remain alert to warnings as they are issued and act accordingly. We have provisions in the Terms and Conditions to reduce the cost of rentals shortened by Code Red or Catastrophic fire conditions. We do not allow bonfires or burning on the property at any time.
• We ask that any questions about safety or emerging safety risks are raised with us immediately.
Leaving: Please leave the key in the key safe and lock all doors. Please turn off all heating and lights. Remove perishables from the fridge/pantry.
We hope you’ll come back and recommend Haldegarte to friends.
Please not that rates DO NOT included the provision of linen. However, we have a local service that makes up the beds and provided towels, facewashers etc for $30 per bed room used and supplied with linen.
We are "off grid" for water so we ask guests to respect the limited water rules.
