Overall, we were very happy in the house, which is in a stunning location and despite its age, well laid and preserved. The pool is amazing, as is the terrace and the views from it. The kitchen is small and with old furnishings (as are some other parts of the house) but this is more than compensated by the layout of the house. Generally, we had a nice time.
Two issues we had:
- three out of the six bedrooms are very dark and a bit damp. We had a problem with an overflowing septic the second day, which forced our friends with smaller children to move upstairs and sleep in the living room. Although Michele was very helpful in resolving the issue as soon as possible, our friends were not able to fully enjoy the rest of their stay after that incident and did not move back into those bedrooms.
- Michele the owner asked me to sign a separate contract where he included terms and conditions, including a cleaning fee of EUR 150, which were not listed on the AirBNB portal. When I queried the reason for this he claimed this is only for tax purposes. I accepted to sign the contract but made sure to delete the cleaning fee provisions, which was accepted by the owner. I was therefore very surprised when at the end of our stay we were told that the 150 eur will be deducted from our security deposit of EUR 1,000 (which was also not mentioned on the AirBNB portal). After an argument we ended up paying half of the requested cleaning fee amount. I find such approach very unprofessional and it spoiled what would otherwise have been a very enjoyable and friendly experience in terms of communication with the owner.
