Private entry, ocean-view balcony, kitchenette. Access to stone courtyard, double kayak and BBQ included. Thanksgiving to May Day weekends, enjoy wood fires in the waterfront stone fireplace. Home is inspired by European castles, English Cotswolds and Mediterranean colour. "What could just one man build with his own two hands?" Greg wondered. Over a decade, he cut and set each stone. Shaped arching windows and doors from trees felled from the land. Forged and hammered iron. One man's masterwork.
This is one of two upper room suites at Morningstone (see also listing for "Village Bay View @Morningstone" and a third oceanfront suite coming online summer 2017). The room has an ocean-view tumbled stone shower, queen-sized bed with goose-down duvet and down pillows, comfy reading chairs, and a dining table and chairs. On the ocean-view balcony, a patio table with chairs. Kitchenette well-equipped with fridge, toaster, microwave, kettle and French press coffee maker. This room is provisioned with fruit, granola & milk, homemade bread, butter & jam, coffee, tea and cream, all replenished upon request.
Overhead fan keeps room cool and breezy in warmer weather. The heated stone floors keep the room snug and warm in cooler weather. Cloth-covered foam mats are available for children or additional guests. We will wash and dry a load of laundry ($10).
Saturdays (10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m), between May Day weekend and Thanksgiving, we make crepes at the local Farmers' Market. Most other mornings, private arrangements may be made for a breakfast crepe right at Morningstone, made personally for you by Greg ($8-12 each).

We are happy to pick you up in Greg's hard-working van. (Not elegant, but plenty of space for you and your luggage). Your room has a private entry, so once you have keys in hand and are oriented to the property, you can be as much of an introvert as you would like! That said, we are close at hand, available by text, should you need anything. Greg always has a new stone project on the go and you are welcome to hang around and watch (and be as much of an extrovert as you like!) This summer's projects include a stone patio-deck, fountain and an outdoor pizza oven.
"Johnny Crepe" @ Morningstone Sample Crepe Breakfast Prices and Menu
Saturday mornings at the Farmers' Market between May Day weekend and Thanksgiving. Many other mornings, Greg will be available to make crepes right at Morningstone, just ask for menu options.
Or to the bakery for breakfast! The Sunny Mayne Bakery Café in Miners' Bay (where the locals hang out) opens at 6:00 a.m. and serves tasty food, whether you would like a pastry and coffee or a full hungry-person meal.
1. Reserving your vehicle . . . on BC Ferries from Tsawwassen to Mayne is strongly recommended year 'round and can be done online. Walk-on passenger reservations (available by phone only) is also recommended, especially during the summer months.
2. On bookings: We cannot accommodate Saturday arrivals or departures between May long weekend and Canadian Thanksgiving in October, even thought AirBnb site will "allow" you to book. Three night minimum booking on Canadian long weekends and during Christmas school holidays.
3. Morningstone is a peaceful working community of family and registered guests (only) who are often engaged in creative work. Therefore, please keep amplified sound indoors and at minimal levels. Also, Mayne Island is a Transport Canada "No Drone" zone because of the seaplane terminal and heliport.
4. The room and property are smoke-free (and no vaping!) and please avoid perfumes and other strongly scented products in the room.
Si vous annulez jusqu'à 7 jours avant le voyage, vous recevez un remboursement à hauteur de 50 %. En cas d'annulation au cours des 7 jours précédant le voyage, la réservation est non remboursable.

Greg and I have been married for 38 years. When our four children were young, we traveled for a year in a tiny-home-on-wheels, throughout Mexico, Guatemala, Europe, North Africa and Turkey, home-schooling along the way. Morningstone is a reflection of the many places that we have loved and called home for a season. We now are grandparents to five! While my husband Greg builds and works on multiple projects outdoors, I write. Two books are being launched this summer. The first is a memoir and the second a children's book co-authored with my granddaughter, featuring a picture of Morningstone in the artwork. I occasionally teach university courses, most recently lecturing on the Dead Sea Scrolls at the University of Oxford and in London. One of our favourite activities as a couple is making and serving crepes to Mayne Island locals and guests on Saturdays at the local Farmers' Market.
