Well, there's probably two words that adequately describe what we experienced when visiting this place in Glyfada: Coming home!
Eleni is a fabulous host and she went out of her way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Just to mention a few examples:
1. She called before our departure from Germany just to make sure that we knew how to get to the place. She gave us very useful instructions and travel hints for Athens (note: she knows her way around)
2. She picked us up from the bus station to take us to the place we stayed (and she dropped us off when we left)
3. She took us to the local bakery and invited us to taste a box full of greek delights, she made sure a bottle of fresh milk was in the fridge when we arrived
4. She prepared the appartment to the liking of our three year old daughter by providing stuffed animals - our daughter literally flipped!
We could go on and on - Eleni made us feel very welcome and she is the most fabulous host. Not a typical Greek, I would say. She is very international, fluent in English and French and is very cosmopolitan - not typical for a Greek.
Our family has high standards when it comes to vacation, especially since we have a small daughter. We used to spend vacations in luxury resorts, so our expectations were high - and they were met to the fullest. The appartment was very clean, spacious with two great balconies and fantastic views. The interior was designed with great taste including the artworks on the wall (Eleni can give you a good story on each of the works that hangs in the appartment). The pool was just great. Just take the elevator downstairs and hop in to cool off. The pool was always clean and the small garden offered tables and chairs as well as sun loungers and enough shade to hide from the sun. The surrounding area (Glyfada) is clean and green. Glyfada center has changed to the better over the last 5 years and has wonderful shops, great beaches (sandy and shallow, great for kids) and very good restaurants (we recommend The President), not to forget the modern playgrounds which are well frequented by the kids of Glyfada as well as kids visiting from abroad (another great place to relax on the beach is BALUX (indoor playground for kids).. We will definitely come back to Eleni, as we love Athens and liked Glyfada as it combined both the advantage of a suburb with the hustling and bustling of the city. In terms of the effects of the financial crisis and the austerity measures that hit Greece and its people in unprecedented ways - no signs of this to be seen in Glyfada. In fact it is just the contrary: nicely designed shops, bars and restaurants offering great quality at reasonable prices ("Miami" of Athens).
Eleni, you are the best!
