À propos de ce logement
Beautiful well equipped 2 level detached 3 bedroom house, in secure and quiet gated estate close to Westlands and the UN. Mile high location means great climate. House gate is automatic and guests get own remote. Parking. Estate approved by UN and US Embassy for their staff. Security alarm and backup. Great kitchen, all weather safari style patio overlooking garden, trees and birds. 10mbps WiFi Broadband, sat TV, standby generator and water reserve. Good restaurant short walk away.
The house is in a quiet and green area, but just minutes from Westlands and rest of Nairobi. Located in a gated estate, with entry and exit monitored by guards 24/7. The house itself has an automatic gate which guests can open from their car, then drive straight in, further improving personal security, especially at night. There are bright security lights illuminating the back garden and valley area, and these will continue to work even during power cuts thanks to a powerful diesel generator which turns on automatically. The kitchen is well equipped, gas hob, electric oven, large new refrigerator, dishwasher (rare in Nairobi), rice cooker, bread machine, large variety of pots, pans and dishes. There is a separate laundry area with good new washing machine. The house is looked after by Martin, the caretaker who lives in his own separate place within the compound. Martin has excellent english and communication skills and is what Kenyan's call a 'fundi', he can fix almost anything , sort things out and solve problems. Outside there is a covered seating area/table and a barbecue which can be fired up. The house has its own reserve water supply, which can provide all needs for a month if mains water fails. Very suitable for guests with young children, cot, baby bath tub, high chair etc, most of what such guests would need.

My family and I are making our space available for about half of the year when we ourselves are not using it. We have tried to separate/move most of our personal stuff, and cupboards for guests are clearly marked. Guests welcome to look at good selection of books and videos etc. The house actually has 4 bedrooms. One of these we use as an office and a store and it is kept locked. Guests have access to an upstairs bedroom, with one king size bed and en-suite shower, a downstairs master bedroom, also with king size bed and bath and shower. The third bedroom is where our 3 year old stays when she is in Nairobi, it is set up for a young child but also has a double bed in it. Then there is a dining area, close to kitchen, a lounge area with TV etc, and balcony overlooking the green valley and swift flowing Getathuru River. The balcony is glass enclosed allowing it to be used at night and in any weather. There are plenty of 'work friendly areas'. Internet is by a fibre optic connection directly in to the house from the street and from JTLFaiba, one of the best providers, typical download speeds of 10mbps. Wi-fi router with reasonable signal in whole house.

We make the space available when we are not in Nairobi so unlikely that we wll meet, but Martin is on hand and will greet you, make you comfortable, give you the access equipment, help with garbage disposal and can give you any information you may require. Martin is of course initially reachable on his mobile phone.

I worked for the UN for many years in several different countries and have traveled widely. Presently living in Kenya and Ireland doing public health consultancy work in Africa and Asia, and, especially when the sun shines, I hang out on the Isle of Wight, close to where I lived as a child and.student.
Expectations of a place to stay, clean, as described, easy to check in and check out, nobody breathing down our necks. We are not party animals. I am also an Airbnb host, so I can see the relationship from both sides.
