The house is magnificent. So unique and so centrally located to the rest of the city. Everything was basically in walking distance. Amenities wise, it was just the basics. Towels, wifi, and kitchen utensils. No body wash or shampoo. The house - although beautiful - has extremely thin walls. You can hear everthing from any part of the room. Note: ask about any wasp issues. We had to kill over 30 wasps that made their way into the home. Because of this, we had to keep all windows closed which made the house extremely stuffy. Apart from that, the house and the property manager, Greg, were great. Would definitely stay again.

This is really a unique and amazing house. I stayed here for 4 days on a visit to Santa Cruz with my son and daughter. It's got incredible character and is a real one-of-a-kind property. Plus it's right in the centre of Santa Cruz so everything was in walking distance. Highly recommended!

It was like spending three nights in a museum! The artwork, knick knacks, books, cabinetry, and artwork were Like spending three nights in a museum! Also, we really enjoyed the proximity to downtown Santa Cruz. Arriving after dark, the apartment seemed a little forboding, but by day it seemed enchanted. Our teen daughters adjusted nicely, each finding a sleeping nook that suited them. The master bedroom is spacious and has an adjacent bathroom. The unit has one small shower and two soaking tubs. Nothing is "standard." Not your typical place, but an interesting, worthwhile, experience.

This was an awesome place to stay. The time and thought put into this place is amazing, so much to look at and explore. I went with a small group of friends and it was a fun spot to stay. There are three private bedrooms and an extra bed in an open area upstairs. We cooked one breakfast, it's not equipped with many utensils but we made it work. We walked to locate restaurants and a grocery store only a couple blocks away. The alley along side the house was very noisy early morning. There is a GoodWill drop-off and the loading and people talking outside the bedroom windows made it difficult to sleep. I would definitely bring earplugs, but I would absolutely stay here again.

This is definitely not your average AirBnB. It's pretty magical! We really enjoyed ourselves. And it's not for everyone. Pros: Greg, the property manager, is incredibly responsive. He got back to me immediately each time I had a concern. The place is truly like none other - it's like living in a combination of your favorite used book store and Hogwarts. Intriguing and inspiring. That's the main reason to rent this place, in my opinion. The roof deck is awesome. We spent a lot of time up there soaking in the sun. The nook in the living room/library was a great spot to nap. The downstairs tub was a great place for a nice long very hot bath. If you want to be in downtown Santa Cruz, you can't get any more convenient than this. Cons: Maybe a magical place has to come with cobwebs - if so, this place is the most magical ever. There were cobwebs EVERYWHERE. It felt like no one had done a serious of clean of this place in years. I was worried that maybe it literally hadn't been cleaned before we arrived, but Greg reassured me that he and his crew had cleaned the linens, done the dishes and wiped down the bathrooms and kitchens. That was helpful, but still, this is not the place for you if you are allergic to dust or cobwebs, or just don't like living among them. This is also not the place for you if you want to make a lot of noise, or don't want to deal with other peoples' noises. There is no sound proofing between this unit and the yoga studio below, and you are asked on arrival to be quiet when there is a yoga class happening - which if they are on schedule is really often. We also had to endure listening to improv classes in the evening. The building also abuts the local Goodwill, sharing an alley - at about 7AM every morning we were woken up by the sounds of trucks and forklifts making deliveries. Finally, this place was not built with privacy in mind. In the unit, most of the interior doors, including to bathrooms, are not solid and don't go all the way to the ceilings. So make sure that whoever you are staying with here you are happy to share all of your sounds with. As a couple we were fine, but if we had invited friends to share the space with us, it would have been pretty awkward. The one shower in the unit is super small (though also really amazing in terms of its decorations) and faces the street - the curtain over the window it faces is sheer, so this is not a place for those who are modest. The tub upstairs is next to windows with no curtains that face the offices next door. Again, not a useable situation for those who don't want to risk being seen naked. Again, we really enjoyed being...

This place is not to be missed. Great location, in a quiet neighborhood away from revving Harleys and booming car stereos. My daughter and I played volleyball in the parking lot without much concern for cars driving by and popping an errant passed ball. Walking distance, and I mean really close, to food, drinks, downtown, and public transportation. Reserved parking in front of the bldg for 1 or 2 cars depending upon occupancy of the other unit. The weekend we went we had it all to ourselves. The place itself is almost magical. A one of a kind space in which every room, every nook and cranny, constantly kept our attention. Inside, there are so many interesting things to see, read, explore, and study. Architecture, books, pictures, murals, stained glass, antiques, pottery, collectibles, tin ceilings, re-purposed fixtures, and much more. Whatever room we were in, we were constantly discovering new things. There is a rooftop deck that is an awesome place to hang out. The building is just outside of the fog zone, and basks in the sun late in the afternoon during the summer. So when the air temp dropped and fog rolled in at the beach, we stayed warm, even tanning, by sitting in the sunny part of the rooftop. There is three bathrooms each with it's own theme. One with a small shower, again very interestingly decorated, and two with tubs. There's also an outdoor rooftop shower near the rooftop sauna, but we didn't use that one (or the sauna). The building is in a very quiet neighborhood. One caveat - the business next door had a delivery each morning around 730 and I could clearly hear the bobtail raise and lower as they loaded/unloaded the truck for about 30 min. BUT, my kids said they didn't hear a thing. This did not affect the quality of my family's stay, but your mileage may vary. Greg was a very gracious host, and showed us all we needed to see about the place. No complaints. Put it this way, I took a bunch of photos to show my friends because it's hard to convey with words how cool and interesting the place really is. I would stay again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.
