2 bedroom apartment that forms part of an old watermill in the village of PASCOSO high up in the hills 45 minutes drive from beautiful Lucca - perfect for mountain walks and a total retreat from city life, especially in the hot summer when it's still cool enough to sleep soundly in Pascoso!
The apartment is on the ground floor and consists of 1 double bedroom, 1 single bedroom (queen size bed), 1 open-plan living room and kitchen area and fireplace (for log fires); and 1 bathroom with shower. The living room includes a dining table, sofa and desk.
There is WIFI at the local bar which is literally only a 1 minute walk away:) Go on ... Treat yourself to some time-out from your i-phone and check-in only when you need to ;)
Pets are welcome for an extra 5 euros per week charge.
NB. Beautiful bed linen, comfortable pillows and lovely towels are already in the apartment - you don't have to bring your own as is the norm in most Italian accommodation.
The apartment is part of the ‘Molino' – which was once my grandfather's water mill. The mill was powered by the fresh water stream which still runs through the large garden, and cotton and flour for bread for the local village was made there.
There is a delightful private patio directly outside the front door which includes a permanent table (made from the stone from the original water mill) and 2 sun loungers.
The apartment is conveniently located only a few minutes walk from the restaurant Carnicelli where you can sample true home made dishes of the area and a wonderful selection of pizzas.. There is another restaurant only a further 10 mins walk away closer to the village church which serves equally delicious food and wine..
The closest airport is Pisa. From Pisa it is approx 1 hr 20 mins drive to Pascoso. We would highly recommend hiring a car as there are so many places to visit and there are VERY few buses from Lucca to Pascoso! There is also a train station in Lucca should you prefer to leave your car in Lucca and travel by train to Florence for a day-trip for example.
Pascoso is a wonderful place for a walking holiday as it is situated in the southern sector of the Alpi Apuane, Tuscany's second highest mountain range. Rifugio Matanna is only a 15 min drive away – the perfect place to park your car and from there choose any of the beautiful easy walks or more difficult hikes to either the top of Monte Matanna (1318m) or Callare for example. If however you prefer shorter strolls then there are beautiful walks just stepping out of the door to walk around the village or down to the nearby San Rocco where there is a tennis court and football pitch - and also one of the many natural springs where it's a treat to fill up some water bottles and take some of the glacier fresh water home.
It's also possible to go horseriding as a group or on a private hack (also organised by the family who run the local shop and Carnicelli restaurant).
And if you like cooking then you might want to try your luck at Porcini mushroom picking as the area is renowned for them.
Needless to say the area is also well suited to day trips to various wonderful places such as:
Celle dei Puccini (13km)
Grotta del Vento (19km)
Villa Reale (29km)
Torre del Lago (42km)
Forte dei Marmi (42km)

"Heather and Ralph's Pascoso apartment is the perfect place for a complete chillout! The location is absolutely idyllic. Alto Matana, which is within walking distance from the apartment is a hiker's dream with wonderful trails and stunning views. Heather and Ralph and their family couldn't have been more kind - they even supplied us with their home-made wine which was absolutely delicious. There are 3 restaurants in Pascoso with wonderful local food and really friendly people. One of the best holidays we've ever had - my husband and I are definitely going back!"
