This unique accommodation for two is truly an exotic, far-east getaway in the heart of the west (San Diego).

Private areas includes a bedroom with a sized bed, yoga area, meditation lamp, incense, Himalayan salt lamps, ancient Sherpa/Tibetan tapestries on the walls, prayer wheels, and a large Buddhist shrine brought directly from the Mt Everest region of Nepal.

The bedroom features a private attached bathroom with modern shower.

The modern conveniences are build into the room including tons of closet space for your things, wide-screen internet) TV, subdued lighting, heating/AC, very fast Wi-Fi, and a sun-facing window.

Guests also get use of the common areas of our house, including a full kitchen, dining room, living room, washer/dryer, and a patio with an incredible mountain top view (see the photos).

You have full access to a fully stocked kitchen (a separate refrigerator for long-term guests has been ordered and will be here any day). Also full access to our living room, dining room, and other common areas.

We also offer wireless access to a laser printer and scanner.

The view from the dining room table includes all of East San Diego, most of the local mountains and hiking spots, and overlooks Gillespie Field; a small airstrip that features many restored historical aircraft.

Depending on her schedule, Mrs, Sherpa might be around to invite you to enjoy a drink of traditional yak butter tea, a Nepali breakfast, or join us for dinner. The same type of food Mrs. Sherpa used to eat when growing up in her village of Lukla, near Mt Everest, (at 10,00 feet in the mountains of Nepal).

PLEASE- Inquire (click "Contact Host"), rather than doing a Reservation Request (clicking on "Request to Book"). Because we list on 5 different sites, our calendar is not always up to date. We do our best, but because the demand is so high, we get inundated with reservation requests and then get penalized by Airbnb for declining the ones that are not a good fit. Help us out and send an inquiry first! We promise to respond very quickly! Our typical response rate is 5-10 minutes.

Guests have one parking space and plenty of street parking. There is a washer/dryer on the premises. It is $5 a load. Detergent and dryer sheets provided.

While you have your own private space, you also have use of the fully-stocked kitchen, dining room, and patio. Guests are often invited to have a traditional Nepali meal with our family, hear stories (and see photos) from our home country, and learn about the Sherpa and Nepali culture.

We do have an 19-month old daughter in the house. She is very quiet, very social, and rarely cries. She sleeps on the other side of the house, so you cannot hear her from your quarters. You will be having breakfast (and sometimes dinner) with her, so if you are allergic to cute babies, this is not the place for you!

The neighborhood is a quiet, predominantly single-family residential area. Super safe (we don't even lock our cars). It is located in the city of El Cajon, which is in San Diego's East County. This property is generally sunnier than the coast, but still offers easy access to beaches, mountains, and deserts.

Driving: Easy access to everywhere from I-8 or I-52 (both are 4 minutes away). You are allotted one parking space with plenty of street parking.

Public Transit: There is a bus stop within 10 minutes walk. Keep in mind that San Diego's public transportation system is not good. If you plan to see San Diego, you are better off renting a car at the local Enterprise car rental place (approx. $25/day), or renting a bicycle for (approx. $5/day).

Uber and Lyft:
There are tons of Uber and Lyft drivers in the area. A ride to Santee or Gillespie field should run you less than $8.

We are less than a 6 minute drive from the shopping malls, restaurants, and grocery stores in Santee. Food options include BBQ and Mexican, as well as lots of different ethnic foods from Japanese to Lebanese.

We are just 30 minutes away from the beaches at La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Shores, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, and Mission Bay.

We are just 10 minutes away from nature spots like Lake Jennings, Santee Lakes, and El Capitan Reservoir. Quiet areas where you can watch birds rent a board, row, fish, or just paddle around and observe the wildlife. Nearby hiking spots include Cowles Mountain and the many trails (and peaks) of Mission Trails Regional Park.

We are a small family that lives in the unit next door. We love to meet out of town guests and are happy to share tips about how the best ways to live, eat, and get around in El Cajon and San Diego. We have traveled to Nepal, Japan, Europe, Scandinavia, Korea, and many other places and have made lifelong friends during our stays with people there. My son, Mike, and daughter-in-law, Dakee, run all our Airbnb units. She is from Nepal and you can expect the kind of Nepali/Sherpa hospitality that is renowned the world over.
