À propos de ce logement
Looking for an affordable place to crash in the heart of Chicago? Situated halfway between the Loop and O'Hare, we offer a simple room in a sparsely decorated 3rd-floor apartment. 15-minute walk to 24-hour subway (blue line, O'Hare branch).
You'll be sleeping on a full-size futon resting on a pine frame. There's a shared bathroom with shampoo, body wash, hand soap, and 2 clean towels upon your arrival. The decor is... Spartan.
There is a washing machine in the kitchen and a dryer in the back stairwell. We don't provide detergent, but the machines are free to use.
This is an ideal space for someone who wants to explore Chicago on a budget, and will probably spend most of their time out and about in the city. We offer you a warm welcome and are here if you have any questions, but if you're looking for high-end appliances and polished decor you should probably look somewhere else.
Accès des voyageurs
Feel free to use the kitchen, but don't expect any fancy gadgets. A few plates, cups, utensils, a basic pot and skillet are provided. You can store your food in the fridge or cabinets. There's a small backyard where you're welcome to chill if you'd like a little fresh air.
There is another listing for the 2nd bedroom in this apartment, so you may be sharing the common areas with other guests during your stay. The closet is shared between both rooms, but there are latches on the bedroom, closet, and bathroom doors for privacy while you're inside the room (the bedroom door does not lock from the outside so your belongings will not be locked away from other guests - trust is the currency of Airbnb). Please try to contain your stuff and any messes to your private room, and leave the shared areas clean after you use them, out of respect for the other guests.
If you're traveling with more than 2 people, both rooms may be reserved for an additional fee, when available.

We do our laundry in the apartment where you'll be staying. Sometimes I paint in the living room. We live in the apartment below so we're often on-site if you need anything, though we have busy schedules and aren't always available on demand.
We also have a 2nd bedroom listed, so you may encounter other guests during your stay. The closet is shared between both bedrooms.
The main entrance is at the back door, accessed from the gate to the left of the house.
The front stairs are for emergency exit only. Do not use them otherwise.

Hi, I'm Carol. I've lived in Chicago for most of the past decade with my husband Jake. We are both grad students - he studies math and I study technology and humanities. We live a calm, simple life, and enjoy eating all the delicious food at nearby cafes and restaurants.
We bought a traditional Chicago worker's cottage at the end of 2015. It was built in 1906, so it's a very old building with lots of character. This also means it can appear unclean to those with modern standards. You might see an ant or a spider in the bathroom.
I'm a pretty laid-back, friendly host. I try to be accommodating, but I don't know everything about the city and may not always be able to answer your questions (though I promise to respond and let you know that I don't know). I like to know my guests a little bit, so I will probably ask you some questions before accepting your reservation request.
I have had some great conversations with guests, but they are usually spontaneous. If I don't happen to be doing laundry while you're here, it's possible we won't see each other after your arrival. That said, if knowing your host is appealing to you as a guest, just let me know and I'll try to find time for a coffee and a chat while you are here.
I have been hosting for about a year, and the most annoying thing to me is when a guest gives a less-than-5-star rating, but doesn't tell me why. I have gotten a lot of helpful feedback from people who adore the place, but the people who aren't completely satisfied don't want to tell me why! The other thing that is really confusing is that these same people leave glowing written reviews. They don't mention whatever it is about the place they found less than ideal. So, my request to you is this: if you're going to take off a star, please give me a brief explanation why in the private feedback. I genuinely want to know if there's something I can do better. I can't change our location, but if you tell me what you didn't like I can describe the negatives better for future guests.
Thank you for reading this. If I haven't completely turned you off then we'll probably get along fine when you get here. : )
