Euan is a friendly and fun host. He recently took over the Colquhonnie and has, as anybody who frequents the place will confirm, worked his tail off improving the place. Our room was big enough to be comfortable yet still feel cozy, and overlooked a beautiful field and forest. The bathroom was obviously put in a couple of decades ago, but everything was in good shape, clean, and worked as it should. Towels and toiletries were in good supply. The hotel features many unique bits and bobs tucked into various nooks and crannies that go perfectly with a stay in the Highlands, from the tartan carpeting to the dining room walls decorated with local pine cuttings. The dining room, by the way, is one of the highlights of the Colquhonnie, as the food is outstanding. The first night we had chicken with haggis and pork with black pudding, and they were both excellent, but quickly surpassed by the next morning's breakfast, which featured the best back bacon I've ever had, hands down, no contest. The staff is very friendly and fun, and the bar gets lively at night. We'll definitely be returning, and would recommend the Colquhonnie to any of our friends.

Myself and my wife Valentina rub the two hotels between us.
The Allargue, locally known as Briggies, is small with stunning views over the Cairngorm mountains, river don and Corgarff castle.
The Coulquhonnie is a bit bigger and livelier, overlooking the river don and just outside Strathdon village - only took this on march 2016.
