Host- Dane is an amazing host. He was flexible with arrival arrangements and was great with communication. When we "checked out" we left the key inside and locked the door. Unfortunately our flight was cancelled when we got to the airport. We still had the house booked for one more night and Dane left an event he was at to go to the house and let us back in. He went above and beyond to help us out.
The House- My husband and I, my two kids and my aunt all stayed comfortably at the house. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs. The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed and a single bed and we used an extra single mattress that Dane left for us as a third bed. There is a couch in the room as well and we felt we had lots of space for our family of 4 in the basement. There is also a bathroom with a shower in the basement. The house has three levels and even when my brother (who lives in Vancouver) was over we felt like there was lots of room for everyone. We spent a lot of time on the deck which looks out over the bay. The house was nice but not so fancy that we felt we couldn't touch anything. It was a great place to be with kids. We were able to seat 8 people at the dining room table. The kitchen had everything we needed to make meals and the BBQ worked great.
Location- Dane's house was absolutely perfect for our family vacation. The view of the bay is beautiful, the paths along the seawall are wonderful, there is a playground and splash pad nearby and there are parks, piers and a beach within a short walk. Our children are 3 and 6 and they LOVED the train that runs behind the house and the frequent ships, helicopters and pontoon planes that they were able to see. There is a grocery store (upscale and a bit pricey but had everything we needed) that is about a 5 minute walk and many other amenities close by.
Transportation- We rented a car for one day only and were able to get to Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain, and downtown Vancouver easily by bus. The bus stop is only a block away. We did take a taxi downtown to the Sky Train when we were on our way home as we had all of our luggage and it cost about $23 from the house to the train stop. When our flight was cancelled and we went from the airport back to the house in a cab, it cost about $44. Getting to and from the airport is the most inconvenient piece of things but it is easily doable.
