Your friendly hosts are the husband and wife team of Kalum and Kumari.
After seeing the impressive palace fortress of Sigiriya Rock, Kalum will help you get the most out of visiting Sigiriya as he has homemade maps to help you discover the surrounding area. Great to visit by bicycle.
Meanwhile Kumari is the cooking specialist. You are welcome to come and join her in the kitchen as she prepares local delicacies.
Sigiriya is in the cultural triangle of Dambulla (19 kms) and Polonnaruwa (54 kms), and as such is an ideal stay over point. The Sigiriya Rock itself (known literally as Lion's Rock) can be seen on all sides and with its 180 m height, this rock fortress is impressive. It will take you approx. 1 hour to ascend the rock, and 30 minutes to descend the 1,200 steps. The frescoes are world famous, and the intricate palace is a place of wonder. It became a World Heritage site recognised by UNESCO in 1982.
Tourist activities include elephant riding, buffalo cart riding and the purchase of wooden artifacts and motifs. There is an excellent shop called the Sigiri Art Gallery, diagonally opposite the homestay.
Being a jungle area, you will also hear the sounds of birds and monkeys.
Tuktuks are readily available in the area. There is a tuktuk point about 50 metres from the guest house at the Hotel Road Junction. Please ensure that you agree a price before taking one. Regular buses also go to Dambulla.
The room is being offered on a half board basis (breakfast and dinner included) so that you can get the full homestay experience. After tasting Kumari's cooking, you will fully appreciate this option.
Please kindly do not smoke in the bedroom. You are welcome to smoke in the outdoor areas.
