First of all, I want to make clear that in a contract between renter and guests there are responsibilities on both sides and in our case, the renter didn't fulfill his part of it. We are using airbnb often and have always made good experiences with it. We are used to being welcomed by the renter. It would have been nice, if he had at least come by to say hallo and explain some important facts about the usage of the flat which directly brings me to the next point.. we had no idea how to use the gas heating and that there could be problems with it.. the whole thing started to burn, gas was leaking.. we were afraid and had a whole lotta problems to explain the portuguese portier what the problem is, since we couldn't reach the renter on the phone for hours.. Nilton told us, the heating would be repaired soon and that he'd contact us before he sends the workers over, which he didn't. When it finally comes to the cleaning, I have to say that the flat was never really clean. There was so much dirt and other stuff under the sofa, we even found a rotten onion under the bed.. in the kitchen, there was mold in the coffee filter, the washing mashine didn't work well and there was water all over.. apart from that, we had the flat directly above us being renovated which woke us up at 7am every morning with a horrible noise.. nobody told us about that.
