Our place is located between Poipu and Shipwreck Beaches for plenty of family-friendly activities. You’ll love our place because of the gorgeous sunrise and sunset views, the location in sunny Poipu, and the ambiance of a tropical paradise. Our place is good for couples or families. We've stocked the condo with every amenity you might need, including beach, tennis, and golf equipment. Check out the complete amenities list in our Condo Book. If we missed something, let us know. We might add it.
Note: The second bedroom can be set up as two twin beds or one king.
The Poipu Retreat is our primary residence. We want others to enjoy it while we're away. You won't be sharing it during your stay. It's truly your home away from home in paradise. We just ask that you treat it with care and respect while you're here.
Our on-island representative is available should you encounter a need for a repair. Our cleaning person is available if you have a housekeeping concern. Either or both may stop by to check on your comfort.
We chose this end-unit condo within the Makahuena complex because it's in a more secluded location with a great cross breeze. It's truly the coolest unit in the complex! It's a short walk to the pool, but far enough away that we aren't bothered by "Marco!" and "Polo!" You'll see an occasional landscape technician or maintenance person, but other guests only walk by our secluded location if they're lost.
The master suite in our condo is separated from the living room by sliding Japanese shoji doors. We usually slide them to one side to enhance an open concept and increase the cross breeze. Also, if you have children, keeping the doors open lessens the chance of damage to the rice paper panels. They are original. The doors can be slid closed for visual privacy, but the rice paper panels don't block noise well.
There's a sliding glass door off the master suite, giving you access to the lanai that runs the length of the east side of the condo.
The remodeled master bath is accessible from the master bedroom.
Also in the master suite is a large walk-in closet. In addition to room for your clothes, this is where we keep most of the toys we've assembled for your enjoyment. You'll save a ton of money by taking advantage of all the beach, tennis, and golf gear stored there. We have boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach chairs, rolling ice chest, tennis racquets and balls, golf clubs and balls, etc. There is too much to list here, but be sure to check our complete amenities list in the Condo Book before renting, buying, or packing something for your trip.
The second bedroom is on the other side of the condo, providing plenty of privacy. The room can be set up as two twin beds, or as one king. The second remodeled bath is right next door to the second bedroom.
The remodeled kitchen is fully stocked with all the pots, pans, and dishes you'll need. We also have a toaster, waffle iron, blender, Keurig coffee maker (with starter k-cups), drip coffee maker, rice cooker, and everything else you might need. Remember, we live here over half the year. If we've needed it, it will be here for you.
The dining table normally seats four, but we have a couple extra chairs if you need to squeeze in six.
The living room has a sofa bed, 39" LED TV, cable, DVD player, iPod dock, CD player, radio, wireless printer, and wireless Internet. We have a selection of DVDs, CDs, and paperback books. Some of these were left behind by previous guests, so no guarantees.
Off the living room are sliding glass doors to the lanai on the east side. There are four chairs and a small table. From there we have a sliver of an ocean view, and it's shady, with a nice breeze in the afternoon.
We have a full-size washer and dryer, and we supply the detergent. The washer is one of those new, water-saving models. Make sure to read the instructions under the lid if you haven't used one before.
We've tried to provide everything you might need for an easy and care-free vacation. We want our guests to be able to just show up with a carry-on bag and know that everything else is already here waiting for them.
Accès des voyageurs
When you are here, we are not. You'll have access to the whole unit, with the exception of one small closet in the hall. We also might have a few bins marked "Owner" stored in the bedroom closets.
As a guest, you'll have access to the pool, spa, barbeques, and tennis courts.
Échanges avec les voyageurs
While we won't be here in person, you can always reach us by phone, text, or email. In addition, we have an on-island representative who lives in the same building, and a cleaning person nearby. They are readily available if you need anything.
Hawaii requires a Certificate of Registration to operate visitor accommodations. In addition, those accommodations must be in a VDA (Visitor Destination Area). We are required to collect and forward GET (General Excise Taxes) and TAT (Transient Accommodation Taxes) that amount to 13.42% of the accommodations and the cleaning fee. For simplicity, we've included the taxes in our rates. Our Hawaii Tax ID number is W41115955-01.
BE CAREFUL renting accommodations that are not located in a VDA. The State is cracking down on those hosts. Your room may not be available when you arrive if your host has been busted!
Checkout is 10 a.m.
Late checkout and early check-in may be possible, depending on other arriving or departing guests. Check with us ahead of time if you would like this option. If we can't allow it, we'll give you some ideas for enjoying that extra time.
There is absolutely no smoking allowed in our condo, or on the lanai! There is a smoking area in the parking lot. Smoking is not allowed in any other area! Our biggest pet peeve is someone violating this rule, and their fumes wafting down and through our space! Please be considerate!
- Other House Rules are stated in the rental contract and included in the Condo Book.
Si vous annulez jusqu'à 7 jours avant le voyage, vous recevez un remboursement à hauteur de 50 %. En cas d'annulation au cours des 7 jours précédant le voyage, la réservation est non remboursable.

My wife, Marlese, and I are originally from the Central Valley of California. Hawaii was always a favorite destination for us, so after visiting about 20 times, we decided to retire to the island of Kauai. I enjoy playing golf, and my wife likes to do crafts and look for sea glass. She also does volunteer work a few days per week. We visit the Santa Cruz, California area for a few months each year.
