Our 1920 historic hand-crafted Rock & Log House, is perched on top of a mountain with panoramic views of Lake Arrowhead (fireworks view
July 3rd) & incredible city lights below. Feel spiritual ecstasy as you view awesome sunsets on the vista deck silhouetted with miles of pines. The ambiance of our arty & bohemian house is beyond compare! It is one of the most beautiful locations in the entire mountain range. Warning! If you love character & unique spaces, you will completely fall in love
While staying at The Sky Inn Bed N Breakfast you will enjoy full private access to the main floor which is built out of massive granite rocks and full sized logs. This house truly is a living piece of art and unlike anything you have ever experienced. If you have ever been to the famous Awani Lodge at Yosemite National Park, you may have a slight inclination of the character of this house. As you walk through the heavy timber handmade dutch door, you will enter into the main room where your eyes are immediately drawn to the rafters above. Here you will see full circumference logs overhead. The center piece of the room is a large granite rock fireplace with original cast iron cookware still hanging from its original iron brackets inside the fireplace. Looking down on you from the top of the fireplace you will see an authentic American bison head in all his majesty. As you look to the other side of the room you will see a full taxidermy black bear guarding the ladder to the most wonderful & romantic hide-away loft overlooking the fireplace and entire living/dining area with views of the lake also. The bunk loft is the size of a double bed and can sleep two people.
You also may notice that all the window panes are authentic hand-blown glass from the 1920s with original wood shutters and hand forged hardware. Many of the furnishings are original to the house and/or time period. In the far corner is the dining table with bench seating that accommodates 6 adults comfortably. The gorgeous table is original to the house. It is a solid slab that was cut from a giant tree and locally sourced. It has a lot of history (which you will be able to read about in our Home Journal during your stay).
As you move through the main room and out onto the vista deck, you will step over a large log threshold and through the french doors with hand blown glass. From the tree top deck, looking to the North, you will be looking down on Lake Arrowhead village. While scanning to the West you will see layers of pine trees and mountains all the way down to San Bernardino Valley below and on clearer days even further west out to Long Beach and Catalina Island.
Once you manage to tear yourself away from the inspiring views on the deck and go back into the house, to the right you enter your cozy cabin bedroom. This room has a double bed, an antique piano and the original iron stovetop heater. The walls and ceilings are all made of wide local rough sewn planks and whole timbers all of which was built back in 1920.
From that bedroom (as well as the treetop deck) you can enter the sunroom. The sunroom truly is a mystical and magical room in the treetops with floor to ceiling pane windows. In this room there is a loveseat, some other seating and a small desk.
The other bedroom is of very similar character to the first and last has a double bed. Again, all the windows in the house are the original hand blown glass panes with wooden shutters and hand forged metal hardware. High in the treetops and facing south east, both of these bedrooms are bathed in the most wonderful morning light accompanied by blue jays and chattering squirrels (or for the late risers you can close the shutters for a full black out).
The upstairs bathroom is Jack & Jill style and thus nested between the 2 bedrooms. It features the original clawfoot tub with a hand held shower attachment.
The lower level with kitchen can be accessed via a narrow staircase that descends into the kitchen. This is where your host will stay and make breakfast/snacks for the day. The kitchen opens up to the lower level stone patio where you can also enjoy spectacular views.

The Rock & Log House is approaching its 100th birthday. Although we have modern amenities it is a little rustic. The walls are made of rocks and logs, and the windows were all built in the 1920s and thus we have drafts and other peculiarities. It is a truly magical place that we hope you will love as much as us, but it may not be for everyone. The cabin is very artsy & bohemian. It is also rustic & delicate. We strive to provide you with luxurious bedding, great hosting and a light breakfast but please note that we are not a hi-tech modernized 5 star resort. We are also in the woods, along with other creatures, and the elements on this side of the hill can sometimes be harsh. I say our place is not for the faint at heart so as not to disappoint the wrong guest that is accustomed to more modern luxuries. If you enjoy unique stays, historic houses and being surrounded by nature you will cherish the place and have a memorable vacation.
Our ideal client is very respectful of the antique fixtures and the delicate nature of an old home. They appreciate the beauty and energy of the magical surroundings. We are not a run-of-the-mill cabin/bunkhouse, With that being said the house is not suitable for party groups with un accounted for guests.
Our cabin is also not very kid friendly. We don't mind children but the upper deck is not safe for children, our windows in the bedroom are not safe for children, the stairwell is very steep and our furnishings are not child/proof so please keep that in mind and notify us at time of booking.
We have antiques original to the house as well as some other things that we have found/collected and are valuable to us. Please treat the furnishing and the house with respect such as you would your own.
We have listed a lot of information but Im sure we are forgetting some things. Please contact us with any questions you have. Also when requesting dates please tell us about yourselves and any additional information that will help us improve your stay.
Road Conditions: Ice & Snow.
We are on the top of a steep road. During spring and winter months it is recommended to carry snow chains in your vehicle. Please check road & weather conditions just prior to your visit. Also our drive way can be icy on the shady side of the hill, so please check with us regarding our driveway/road conditions. Sometimes in the high traffic areas snow chains aren't required but they may be needed to go up our road.
