À propos de ce logement

Not many places survived the '69 Earthquake. Luckily, this one did. This historic and adorably funky cottage is right downtown. Once the Hansel & Gretel Toy Store, now a beautiful oasis in the middle of the city. Walk to farmer's markets, solstice festivals, Iditarod events and many other features of Alaska's largest city. Room has private entrance and full bed with plenty of sunlight.

Description

Not many places survived the '69 Earthquake. Luckily, this one did. This historic and adorably funky cottage is right downtown. Once the Hansel & Gretel Toy Store, now a beautiful oasis in the middle of the city. Walk to farmer's markets, solstice festivals, Iditarod events and many other features of Alaska's largest city. Room has private entrance and full bed with plenty of sunlight.

Plenty of personality in this place. This cottage was originally built in 1940 and still has the original owners/builders names carved in the hearth and entry steps. It has been modified and has all the common amenities (although I just recently removed the ironing board from the kitchen. Different times). Original hardwood floors throughout, but the room available has the original play mat flooring from when it was a toy store. Most of the house is still original, which means smaller doorways and stairs. It makes up for it with open areas and multiple living rooms. Small children's rooms in the attic if you want extra guests (additional booking). Located in downtown and walking distance to everything. However, the landscaping is so plush you can't even tell you're in a city. Large Alaskan trees, flowers and produce create a genuine oasis. If you come in the right season, we would be happy to share our raspberries, rhubarb, and crabapples with you. Maybe even some pie or home made mead!

All areas except private bedrooms are open to all guests. There is a bar for drinks and good conversations. A TV room with a large couch and wood stove for relaxing. We are also music lovers and have a dedicated music room in the basement with an impressive collection of instruments. We often invite our musician friends over as well if you want to join in on a jam session or just sit back and listen. The garden is a great place to relax. On the clear nights we can light up the firepit and roast smores!

I am an astronomer who runs the Planetarium at the University of Alaska Anchorage and live with my boyfriend who is a musician in a local band with our other roommate. We permanently live in the house year round and would love to host you along with our very friendly cat and dog. We are happy to give you as much privacy as you like, or take you on great Alaskan adventures. In the winter, we would be happy to take you to see the northern light and talk to you about the process behind how they occur. In the summer, we'd be happy to explain to you why we have so much free time (only 1 star to look at)! We are born and raised in Alaska and loves sharing our home state with visitors. If you come at the right time, you might even be able to join me on a fishing trip aboard my boat, The Pickle. Or if you are here in the winter, we can take you on one of our frequent skiing and snowboarding trips at the Alyeska Resort.

Walking distance to downtown, grocery stores, restaurants, bars, shopping, parks, Enterprise Car Rental and the Sullivan Arena. If you would like to go other places in town, there is public transportation by The People Mover. If we are available, we would be happy to offer rides to other places around town as well.

Rides to and from the airport are available if you need them. If you have your own vehicle, there is parking on-site. If you are allergic to cats or dogs, we can accommodate this by deep cleaning the room and keeping them out of it.

Very chill group of people. If you are a chill night-owl kind of person, then you will like this place. If you are a fickle early-to-bed sleeper then you might have a hard time sleeping before about midnight. They have very friendly pets, and are a couple of blocks from the downtown strip. Omega and Santos gave us a lot of recommendations, which we utilized and enjoyed; at the end of our trip they even gave us a ride to the Airport. Considerate hosts, always texted us right away if something came up. Glad to have stayed there.

Omega's place was great! Such a cute, cosy and comfortable room. Private entrance, 15 mins walk to restaurants and bars. Friendly hosts and a very cute dog! Thank you Omega!

Nice place for staying at the central part of Anchorage. Walkable distance to Enterprise, restaurants and supermarket (carrs). You have your own private entry. Benchy is enthusiastic, and the cat (sorry I forgot her name) is not afraid of people at all.

This cottage is adorable! Very cool decor, very clean, and very comfortable both in terms of the physical and social environment. Everyone who lives there is super nice, and their dog is the sweetest! I was staying here for a week while I worked on research at the museum downtown. Omega was nice enough to put a desk in the room for me to use, which was super helpful. House was walking distance from many cool spots. I recommend the Dark Horse coffee shop and the Bubbly Mermaid :-)

Omega and Santos are very nice host and the room fits the description (the picture of the office is actually the room and there is a bed instead of a desk). However I had a terrible night. The house is along a 4-lane street with cars and trucks driving by, there is little insulation so it was quite noisy. There is a door in the room facing the street and there are no curtain so the street light and morning sunlight get in. The wall between the room and the living room is tainted glass so you get additional light. On top of it my hosts had a guest that night and they watched TV and talked until midnight, despite my asking to be quieter as I had a big event the next day and wanted to sleep.

A fantastic first trip to Alaska. Omega and housemates were very nice and gave me great local insight and places to see/visit. Their dog Banshee was fun too!

The Toy Shoppe was a warm and welcome retreat in the Snow City. Hosts were helpful and friendly, planetarium tickets were a nice bonus!
