Lots of good stuff about this house but a couple of important drawbacks. Good: Amazing beachfront location, gorgeous views, comfy furnishings and sofas, well-stocked kitchen in terms of dishes, pots, pans, etc. Unfortunately there is a pretty problematic drawback for anyone with small kids: on the balcony that you have to come and go through to get into/out of the house, a few of the wooden slats are loose which means there are a bunch of exposed rusty nails AND an area where a small kid could fall off the balcony to the bottom floor. A couple of times we had the door open and my almost three year old was standing right at the entry to the opening playing with the rusty nails sticking out. It's a very dangerous situation for anyone with young kids-- so much so that I'm quite surprised it hasn't been remedied. Other drawbacks-- we had a hard time getting the key to work (unlocking from the drop box). Annick was responsive and sent the housekeeper to unlock the door for us but didn't bring a key by until the next afternoon. Not a big deal but just meant we couldn't lock the door for 36 hours. If you're safety conscious, just be aware that the housekeeper mentioned that she had had to come by a few times before as evidently the lockbox doesn't open easily. As mentioned in other reviews-- the beds for the bunkbeds are ok for kids but not for adults. Finally-- we had a water pipe burst on Thanksgiving day evening. It was outside but it was flooding the street so my dad and father-in-law spent about 2 hours trying to remedy the situation. We contacted Annik to let her know and she didn't think she could get a plumber out to the house on Thanksgiving (which was fine-- we didn't expect that she could) but it was weird that she didn't apologize and didn't bother to check in the next day to see if the situation was remedied. All in all for the $500 a night it was not good value. We have stayed in over 100 Airbnbs around the world and generally have the good fortune to give 5 star reviews, but in this case, we simply cannot due to the rusty nail and balcony risk situation. If you don't have small kids it's probably a fine house if you're ok with the bunk bed situation.
I have never had a better time. The location is as it is described. I am sitting on the balcony and listening to the surf. The house was so nice and comfortable that I never even swam in the ocean. All I needed was to watch and listen to it. I came here to celebrate my 30th. Three friends came and met me on the prior friday. And they left on Sunday. I love it so much that I didn't want to pack on my birthday to leave the next day, so I requested and was granted an extra night. About 30 minutes from downtown Galveston, but to me that is a perfect distance. The beach has been vacant since Sunday afternoon. As well as the houses (except the one neighbor to the left). Good star gazing. Surprising being so close to Houston. 4 bedrooms. Master up stairs with a master bath. Another room upstairs with a bunk bed. I didn't use the bed but I used the pillows. The bunkbed mattresses are basically like lying on springs, but you won't care if you appreciate everything else about this place. Downstairs are two more bedrooms with a bathroom in between. One of them is a queen bed, the other is a room of 2 bunkbeds (four beds). Good closet space. Showers are easy. When the four of us were here we each had a good amount of privacy. Two of my friends are married to one another, so we only used 3 of the 4 bedrooms. The uncomfortable upstairs mattresses on the bunk bed might be perfect for children, since they hardly weigh enough to tell how springy the mattresses are. Everyone was comfortable. Grocery store and gas station about 10 minutes away to the north. Got the newspaper there every morning. Beach feels so private. 2 grills. Outside shower. Garage door with a lot of toys and fun things inside. You will love this place. The pictures on their page don't do it justice. There is a living room with a nice TV. About 50 inches. 1 component, 1 AV, and 4 HDMI inputs. Plus cable and a DVD player. I think I stayed at the best place in the entirety of Galveston. Couldn't be happier. Thanks :).
We had a most excellent time at this house. The criteria (requested by a mom with small children) was beachfront, no driving traffic, quiet room for naps/early bed, affordable. This was the only house that fit all criteria. The kitchen was well appointed (drip coffee makers) with plenty of dishes, pots, pans, bake ware and utensils. 2 microwaves and new-ish oven/stove. Washer/dryer!! Would have liked better rubber spatulas and more kitchen towels but all linen (bed and bath) were very nice. Consider bringing your own chopping/paring knives. Plenty of pillows, blankets. Comfortable beds. Never ran out of hot water even with 10 people showering in a row. AC cranks! Cold for me but others liked it. Enjoyed the balcony very much. Various beach toys available for use. ONLY frustration is related to fact that my husband had to work (or stay home). He telecommutes and internet was inadequate, as was ATT cell reception, for him to work efficiently. This will not interfere with true vacationers. We would definitely use this house again. Thank you for the use of your beach house and the sweet gesture of a bottle of wine. Absolute fabulous week with family. I received several reports of kids crying upon departure. Nobody was ready to leave.
