Description

This west facing self-contained apartment in a modernised, cosy fisherman's cottage, with private shared patio, faces the river beach. It's near the Ship Inn pub, the Crabshack fish restaurant, a sailing school, public transport, the town centre, ferry to Shaldon. I love living here; the tranquility, the local neighbourhood, watching the boats and world go by, walks on the beach, beautiful views up the river Teign to Dartmoor, delicious sunsets, high tides. Good for couples and solo adventurers.

I love living here in this unique and beautiful place. The river and the beach is literally on the doorstep. There's plenty to do in the area, but you may not want to do anything except enjoy the river, back beach and sunsets. You have the ground floor of the house. A self-contained one bedroom apartment in an original fisherman's cottage on the River Teign, the well known back beach area of Teignmouth. The picture window faces the beach and looks up the River Teign to the beautiful national park area of Dartmoor. Steps to the beach, the Ship Inn, Crab Shack restaurant and the newly emerging Arts Quarter. Two minutes from shops and 5 minutes from town centre. Perfect for walks on the beach, watching the stormy seas, visiting Exeter, or Dartmoor for a walk and a pub lunch. More tranquil in the autumn and winter months. My favourite things are walking on the back beach - whatever the weather. Look out for the seal that plays in the water close to shore outside the house. Teignmouth sea wall and the front beach are also good for storm watching, and surfers catching the surf. You may also spot a fox on the cliff embankment, dolphins out at sea, and a bird of prey high above the cliff near the TEIGNMOUTH sign. Relax at any time of year.

You have access to the whole of the downstairs with your private entrance, facing the beach, in this self-contained ground floor space. You also have a shared patio area out front in this unique spot - where you can breakfast, surf the web or just sit and take in the atmosphere and views. The small back courtyard is private and can be accessed to leave the property in an emergency.

I live above and will be available to give tips about the area, shops, local transport, areas of interest, other towns to visit as well as Dartmoor which is about a 30-minute drive away. I will be on hand for any queries, via my mobile or knock on my door, should they arise.

The back beach neighbourhood is unique. This is the River Teign beach area of Teignmouth, this small coastal town in Devon in the South West of England. There is a fishing community and a working quay close by and always something going. You will be in the heart of this friendly community.
Festivals and events in throughout the year e.g. summer: Carnival week; regatta week; Ship Inn music August Bank Holidays and selected other dates. Winter includes Jazz festival November.
At any time of the year the restaurants might be fully booked. During the winter months they may be open 3-4 days per week - if you want to eat in one of them book beforehand. Pubs serve pub food with no need to book e.g. the Ship Inn 2 doors down facing the river.

Lovely walkable area, with plenty of opportunities for short strolls along the beach or longer coastal walks; the seawall and front beach, ferry across to Shaldon, a quaint village with a different feel to Teignmouth and should not be missed - walk through Smugglers tunnel onto Ness Beach after getting the ferry across. The ferry is a 10-minute walk along the beach from the apartment. Close to train station - 10-15 minute walk - good service to Exeter, local city also well worth a visit. Two car parks a few minutes walk from the property. See Guide for the Quay car park directions.

There is a small TV with box. There is now new lighting in the kitchen, living room and the bedroom. There's also now a micro-wave. The area is bustling in the summer months, particularly at weekends, lovely lively atmosphere. The back beach area a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike. Sailing school 2 minutes along the beach. Several recommended restaurants in the town and a new Arts Centre recently opened. This is an area with lots to see and do, and its natural coastal beauty is stunning.
Watch out for seagulls!
You will be staying in the heart of the back beach community where much of the summer fun takes place - and across the river - a ferry ride/stroll over the bridge away. Vibrant and lively in the summer - especially so at the many community events throughout the year 2017 - here are some:
Teignmouth Ship Inn Music Festival May 26th-28th
Teignmouth Folk Festival 16th-18th June;
Shaldon Festival 22nd-25th June;
Teignmouth Regatta 29th July-August 6th;
Shaldon Water Carnival August 5th;
Shaldon Regatta August 21st-August 29th;
'Taste of the Teign & Harbour Festival' September 25th-1st October 2017; Teignmouth Jazz and Blues Festival 17th-19th November.

We also have other events throughout the year at several venues including:
- Pavilions Teignmouth - an Arts and Community Centre;
- TAAG Arts and Community Centre- events, activities and exhibitions;
- The Oyster Catcher Cafe with Community events including - quizzes, live music, tapas evenings; poetry.

Exeter nearby (30-minute train ride); I recommend 'Cathedral Close,' the museum, Gandy street (shops and bars), the Quay area.
Dartmoor is 30 minutes in the car; I especially recommend Haytor (granite tor) and Widecombe-in-the-Moor (village with good pub food).

We had a 2 night stay at Anne's place and we were so sad to leave! Anne is really welcoming and the communication right from the moment we booked was 5* we'll in fact, even before we booked! The place I so central, perfect location! The apartment is really cute, really nicely decorated and super comfy! On top of this there are loads of little Cara touches, including the cream tea which we loved! Thank you so much again for letting us stay at your wonderful place! Natalie and Adam x

We loved our two night break by the sea, everything was just perfect, the cream tea on arrival and basics in the fridge a lovely touch. Fabulous little apartment with views over the water to Shaldon. We enjoyed a birthday meal at the crab shack restaurant next door. Anne was a super host, can't wait to visit again :)

Hi,
I'm Anne, born and bred in Teignmouth. As a child, I loved to look out of my bedroom window at the river Teign and to listen to the quiet 'chugging' of the cargo boats' generators on the docks as I drifted off to sleep. I loved the beaches, the River 'back' beach, alive with locals and visitors. I also happily explored Dartmoor, the local national Park just 30 minutes drive away, with its beauty/picnic spots, Tors, rivers, and villages. When older I also spent many happy hours enjoying a cider outside the Ship Inn, looking up the river Teign to Dartmoor, watching the sun go down. I moved away from Teignmouth and most recently lived in Vancouver Canada for 9 years. While there, I traveIled in North America - mostly by train and loved the camaraderie with fellow travelers - on coach for 2-3 days at a time. Although I now have dual UK-Canadian citizenship, I returned to Teignmouth 2 years ago to spend more time with my new grandchildren. I work at Exeter University, and still love the same things about living in Teignmouth that I did as a child; the beach, walking, swimming, visiting Dartmoor and my old 'haunts' - including climbing Haytor Rock - on a clear day it's especially beautiful and invigorating. Over the decades I have seen many changes in Teignmouth; we have a new Arts Centre and a thriving arts community, and several very good restaurants. I love the tranquility, the natural beauty and the community here, in particular, the working docks - and watching the cargo boats, from all over the world, glide past my window on a high tide; as well as the rowers and fishing boats come and go. Staying here, you will be at the heart of this community. I love sharing this unique and tranquil - sometimes lively place with travelers and visitors. Since I have been an Airbnb host I have really enjoyed meeting people from both far afield and closer to home, and sharing my local knowledge, personal insights and love of Teignmouth and the nearby area. This is a pretty chill place to be - and I count myself very lucky to have been born here!
