The treehouse is hidden up in the trees on the property of Alaska’s #1 Rated Hostel - Sven’s Basecamp Hostel.

Sven’s Basecamp Hostel is where adventurers in Alaska begin a journey, meet up after a trip, or take a much-needed rest. Mountaineers, amateur naturalist, wilderness guides, motorcyclist, and those looking to explore Alaska find friends and relaxation here like nowhere else in Fairbanks.

Centrally Located between two major ports of entry we are 3.5 miles from Fairbanks International Airport and 3.5 miles from the Fairbanks train station.

You will be within a mile of a Fred Meyer food and supply store and minutes away from some of our favorite bars and restaurants where the locals like to go.

You’ll love your stay because of the private unique treehouse experience, the meals you will cook and share (likely with new friends) in the community kitchen, and the memories you will probably value for a lifetime.

Come alone or bring someone special. We even welcome your furry friends if they are well behaved and welcoming to others.

The treehouse has a wooden staircase that leads up to a swinging bridge. There is one room surrounded by a porch on three sides with private seating facing the forest. Inside is a kingsize bed, shelving unit, trashcan, and seating.

The bed is fitted with a sheet and pillows. Sleeping bags are provided if needed upon request.

The bathroom and quarter-operated shower are conveniently located in our community bath house nearby.

You will have free parking in our parking lot. Motorcyclists have designated parking. We have a community kitchen that is stocked with pots/pans and dishes that you are welcome to use. There are also two refrigerators and plastic containers for dry food storage. We ask that all guests clean the dishes they use and label their food with their name and date of storage.

Bike and canoe rentals are available from the main office.

When you arrive you will check-in at the main two-story cabin with the sign above that reads “Sven’s Hostel” located at the front of the property. Depending on the time of day/night you arrive either I or one of my staff members will be happy to greet you.
During your stay, your tree house will remain private and I or one of the staff will only enter it upon your request for housekeeping services.

Interaction with Other Guests

At Sven’s Basecamp Hostel we have four private cabins, four wall tents, and a small campground. We host travelers coming to Alaska from all over the world. During your stay in the tree house (our nicest and most private accommodation) you will have the opportunity to meet and make new friends from around the globe. Many meals are cooked and shared in our community kitchen and plenty of stories and good times are shared on our common area porch.

We are fortunate to be tucked into the trees but also close to a road with access to food, supply stores, and nearby entertainment. Guests agree that we have a unique and special location that feels like a summer camp. One of our favorite compliments is when world travelers from Europe to South America tell us that we are one of the best places they have stayed in the United States. That’s a pretty cool thing to hear!

We have a bus stop directly in front of the hostel property and we are a 10-minute taxi drive to downtown Fairbanks.

***PLEASE READ ENTIRE LISTING DESCRIPTION AND RULES BEFORE REQUESTING A RESERVATION.*** When making a request, please tell us a little about yourselves, your interest in the treehouse and indicate that you have read the full listing and house rules. Hope to see you soon!

We had a lovely stay in he treehouse, the hostel staff are very helpful and accommodating. The rest of the guests were also lovely and sitting around the campfire at night time was a highlight of our trip. The treehouse is very well made but very simple, a heater is provided but take warm clothes for sleeping. Would definitely recommend this hostel to a friend and stay here again :)

Very friendly and accommodating! They let us add in an extra person last minute, for a small cost, but they were able to provide a cot! Very clean. The treehouse was amazing and really uniquely built! Very woodsy place tucked away in the city. It was close to a main road, but you couldn't even hear any traffic. Easily one of the best nights sleep I had in a few months! I would definitely recommend for a quick stopover in Fairbanks.

We were waiting for the sun to go down through our sky light in the tree house and as soon as it got dark we got to see the most brilliant display of the northern lights! An experience I'll never forget.

I didn't meet Sven but his hostel staff was friendly and helpful! The treehouse is really beautiful and such a unique experience! Getting to it over the hanging bridge is an adventure by itself and sitting on the porch with view into the forrest is amazing! Highly recommended

Absolutely awesome. If you're tired of complaining tourists and pseudo-explorers, this unpretentious garden of near-Arctic Eden is for you. The treehouse is more expensive than the huts, true, but it's built like a birch and spruce castle, complete with a bridge. Don't arrive expecting a hotel lobby and a gossipy woman behind the gift shop counter. She works down the street. Oh, and ask Sven about his Iditarod tattoo (I forgot to). As with any hostel, slow down and talk to people; nowhere is this pastime more rewarding than in Alaska.

I was excited about my stay from the moment I booked it..........must excitement grew when I pulled in the lot at Sven's. The atmosphere, the grounds, the beauty was awesome. All the cabins and treehouse was very well laid out, giving space for each to be their own. As to the treehouse..... AWESOME....... I can't say enough about it, I loved it. The host were absolutely great and very accommodating to my needs, while they also stayed in the background leaving me to myself. Ps....I had plans to go out to dinner and shopping, after checking in and relaxing before going out ...... Well I ended up running into town, picked up fast food and returning to the treehouse to enjoy the peace it offered. Thanks to all for my great stay.!.!.!,!.!,!
