Description

Orchard Brow is between Selkirk, Melrose and Hawick in the historic Scottish Borders. It is set in an elevated position above a small hamlet in rolling countryside.
The modern luxury apartment is spacious and quiet in a beautiful location with extensive views. Couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers have enjoyed staying here and exploring the area.

There is a spacious, L shaped, open plan living room with dining area and kitchen. The separate bedroom has a super king size double bed. There is an en-suite shower room with toilet. We try to be ethical in our living. The building, completed in 2013, is designed to be low-energy but comfortable. It is very well insulated with maximum use of solar power. Fairtrade products are extensively used.

Electricity, bed linen, towels and cleaning are included. The facilities include Wi-Fi, a Freesat TV, DVD, induction hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and use of a washing machine and drying space in our utility room.

The apartment is attached to our house but has separate access via external stone stairs from the parking area to guests' garden and entrance door. The garden includes a paved patio and furniture to enjoy the tranquility and views.

There is ample parking at the foot of the steps. Cycles can be securely locked and motorcycles stored under cover in our carport.

Where possible we welcome guests personally. We respect your privacy, but most of all want you to enjoy your stay, and so try to be available.

There are activities for everyone nearby, including historic houses, gardens, abbeys, museums and shops in local towns. The more active can enjoy walking, cycling, golf, fly fishing, horse riding or shooting. It is 4 miles to the local shops and about 2 miles to the nearest pubs and restaurants.
Local events include Common Ridings in all the towns, walking festivals, Melrose Book Festival, Historic Cars, Jim Clark Rally, Music Festivals, Rugby Sevens, art shows and open studios.
We have a box full of tourist information, guides and maps.

It is 2 miles to the nearest public transport. Local roads are very quiet. The new Borders Railway provides a good link for a day out in Edinburgh from Galashiels or Tweedbank. The apartment is less than 90 minutes from both Edinburgh and Newcastle airports. It takes about 2 hours from Port of Tyne (Newcastle Ferry Terminal).

There is Wi-Fi in the apartment but mobile phone coverage is limited.

We retired to Scotland in 2011 to design and build our dream home in the countryside. Having frequently traveled through the Scottish Borders in the past we are now enjoying exploring the area.
