Welcome to our Off-Grid Guest Cabin, located on 50+ acres in the heart of Amish country in Chautauqua County.
The cabin is a rustic standalone building, w/o running water, an indoor sawdust toilet & outhouse is provided.
10 Min - Harris Hill State Forest, Boutwell Hill Forest,
25 Min - Lilly Dale,
30 Min - Chautauqua Lake, Allegany State Park & Fredonia.
It's not uncommon to hear an Amish buggy going up our hill & the town of Leon, which is 80% Amish, is located 10 minutes away.
We built the cabin ourselves for family and friends to use... as this is only needed a couple of times a year we decided to open it up to guests.
The cabin has a sleeping loft and mattress on the second floor along with a bedroom in the rear of the cabin. The Bedroom has a full bed and bunk beds. Bring sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, etc.
The living room area is bright with five windows. There are several wooden chairs along with some folding ones you can take outside.
There is a small kitchen area inside but we just added a summer kitchen (outside cooking area) directly in front of the cabin. This way, while cooking in the summer, you do not heat the cabin up.
There's an indoor composting toilet and an outhouse. There is no flushing toilet. We ask that women do not put hygiene products into either as the mice sometimes remove them. You can burn them in the firepit or put them in the trash.
There is no running water. We have 5 gallon water jugs that are used instead.
There is a firepit with benches next to the cabin. We provide the firewood but ask that you keep the fire's manageable... We don't need wood piled 4 feet tall with 10 foot flames.
We have several axes and saws on the upper walls out of reach. They are very sharp and only display items.
If you want to chop some wood we have user axes around that have fiberglass handles that are pretty much unbreakable. You don't have to and there are of course risks with using an ax that you assume in doing so. If you do want to split some wood let us know.
A couple of things to bring:
Sleeping bags, pillows, bedding, etc
flashlights (we have some in the cabin if you need them)
Accès des voyageurs
You will have full access to our 50 acres. Our property is mostly wooded on a hillside.
If it's a clear night stay up late and you'll be rewarded with a view of the milkyway as the light pollution is less here than the surrounding areas. You're welcome to come to our field in front of my cabin to get a better view.
We do ask that you stay out of any of the other buildings around if we're not around. If we are and you'd like to tour them we'd be more than happy to show you around.
We also have a lot of heavy equipment, tractors, trailers, mowers, etc. Please stay off them for your own safety. If we're around we'd be happy to show them to you.
Échanges avec les voyageurs
Either I or my Father-In-law will be there to let you in and get you settled.
We're frequently working on small projects around the property and would be happy to either point you in the right direction or perhaps show you in person some of the sites.
This is a rustic cabin in the woods. Local animals that wander through our property include deer, turkey, bears, coyotes, raccoons, squirrels, porcupine, snapping turtles, mice, cats, dogs. It's not a petting zoo. If they have four legs and you didn't bring them they will probably not be happy if you try and touch them. There are sometimes mice that get into the cabin. We try to stop them but it does happen.
We have no problem with legal aged adults drinking but please don't drink to the point of getting drunk and then getting sick. This happened last year once and we'd prefer it didn't happen again.
As noted above there is no running water, electricity and there's an outhouse.
You must acknowledge the part in our description about the no running water, electricity and outhouse... people tend to gloss over those...
