Description

Make yourself at home in an airy, newly renovated apartment in a quiet, leafy neighborhood that's centrally located but off the beaten track. The house is a 10-minute walk to vibrant, multicultural Central Square, a 20-minute walk to Harvard and MIT, and a 5-minute walk to the Charles River (great for runners). You're welcome to help yourself to breakfast in the morning—we provide coffee, tea, cereal, milk, and fruit.

Stay in a small but charming guest bedroom with a single bed, desk, and armchair on the second floor of our freshly renovated four-bedroom, two-bath apartment.

You're welcome to hang out in the kitchen/family room area and living room or on the deck.

Help yourself to breakfast (cereal, fruit, coffee, tea), and feel free to use the stove, microwave, fridge, etc.

Let us know if you'd like to use the washer and dryer (they're in our bedroom).

If you need a place to park, we can usually make space in the driveway or lend you a permit to park on the street (please inquire ahead of time).

We're happy to chat or offer advice about the area, but we also try to be mindful of guests' desire for space and privacy, so we'll take our cue from you. And of course, please let us know if there is anything we can do to make you more comfortable—we're eager to make you happy, but we count on you to communicate what you need.

The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood a 10-minute walk to bustling Central Square, which is full of bars, cafés, and restaurants. Closer by, we're a 2-minute walk to a Whole Foods supermarket that sells coffee, prepared meals, and beer & wine as well as a wide selection of organic food, and a 5-minute walk to Trader Joe, Starbucks, and the Charles River. And there are a few small eateries that you can walk to in 3-5 minutes:
• Alive & Kicking, home of the best lobster sandwich in Boston, open 11-6 Mon-Sat and till 4 on Sunday (outdoor seating only)
• Coast Cafe, serving fried chicken and barbecued ribs, open 11-9 Wed-Sat (very limited seating)
• Surya's Indian Kitchen, open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week till 10
• Riverside Pizza and Seafood, a low-budget local favorite serving not only pizza and seafood, but also burgers, subs, chicken plates, salads, etc. Open Mon-Sat at 11 am; food is served until 10:30 pm, and the bar is open until 1 am.
• Basta Pasta, serving pasta (including homemade fusilli and radiatore), pizza, panini, salads and more, 7 days a week till 10

You can walk to Harvard or MIT in less than 20 minutes, and to HBS in 15. We're a 10-minute walk to the Central Square redline "T" station (1 stop away from Kendall Square, 1 stop away from Harvard Square, and 3 stops from downtown Boston) and a 5-minute walk to the #47 bus, which gets you to the Longwood Medical Area and the Museum of Fine Arts in 15 minutes. The #64 and #70 buses also stop close by. Let us know if you're coming by car and need parking while you're here.

Dog: We have a small dog named Milo who's friendly & harmless but barks energetically whenever someone comes home. So if you're uncomfortable with dogs or allergic to them, we're not a good fit. On the other hand, if you like dogs and don't mind enthusiastic greetings, Milo is a sweetheart!

Noise: We often watch a little TV in the evening (from about 9 to 11), and we occasionally have friends over on Saturday or Sunday night. Otherwise, we're usually fairly quiet.

Housekeeping: You can count on a spotless bedroom and bathroom, but you might find common areas showing the clutter of daily life.

My husband and I are college writing teachers who have been happily at home in Cambridge for 25+ years. I enjoy cooking, travel, running, crossword puzzles, and knitting; Chuck’s an rpg enthusiast and an avid biker; and we both love sharing meals with friends, novels, movies, board games, dogs, and most of all spending time with our college student kids.
