Description

The 17th century villa is on a hilltop dominating the Umbrian valley, the "green heart" of Italy: after relaxing by the pool, you can take the opportunity to visit the most beautiful Italian ancient towns such as Spoleto, 10 min away, with a great cultural scene, classical concerts, theatre, Assisi with Giotto's frescos, Trevi... You can also hike on beautiful trails, in a region that is home to black truffles, served with fresh hand-made pasta in most restaurants.

Built on the site of an ancient roman villa, the actual building is a castle from the 16-17th century, originally used by the Borgia family as a summer residence and now divided in individual houses. You are going to be living in a very secluded and totally peaceful area structured like a "borgo", with a stunning view over the valley. Here nature is wild but friendly, the kind of nature St Fancis beloved. You are right in the middle of one of the best hikes in the region. The trail in question never gets steeps since it follows the track created by the former railway connecting Spoleto to Norcia. You can also mountain bike or simply walk around, only to discover more fascinating landscapes. The Marmore falls, the Clitumno springs, chestnut or olive groves... Eating in local restaurants is a radical experience: here cooking is still considered a sacred activity, whilst the prices have remained more than affordable. You get out feeling Grateful. Of course, each tiny little town, and there are dozens 10 or 15 min away by car, is a jewel of Italy's middle ages and renaissance. Duomo churches, frescos, ancient bridges, monasteries, castles. There are so many that often an old lady from the village looks after the church because there aren't enough priests to do so. If you stop and ask, she'll let you see the frescos inside and tell you the story.
The surrounding forests yield wild asparagus, wild boar (oh so good), black truffles, porcini mushrooms, chestnuts... And the local peasants make one of the best olive oils in the peninsula, pungent and fresh in taste, that keeps for years, loaded as it is with anti oxidants.
These are some of my favourite things :)

You will access the entire house (3 big bedrooms, a big living room and a very big kitchen with the fireplace, 2 bathrooms), and dependance: swimming pool and a very nice barbecue area covered by vine, the garden with plenty of different fruit trees (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, figues, apricots, peaches, pears, and squirrels...)

It is highly recommended that you rent a car to stay at the house since local cabs are only 2 (in Spoleto), and somehow expensive. Hertz in Spoleto, nearby the train station is very practical, look it up on to check their schedule!

A local person will welcome you an make sure everything is ok with the garden and swimming pool during your stay.

only 13 min away from the town of Spoleto, on the hilltop. You are in the ideal spot to visit all the Umbrian Valley nicest towns, hike, or simply head down to Spoleto for cultural evenings.

You can arrive here by plane (through Perugia or Rome airport), getting a train that connects you to the town of Spoleto or renting a car (1h30 away from Rome, only 30 min from Perugia)

The house is on a hilltop, and ancient, so there is one staircase into the house, leading to the main floor where the kitchen is, 3 little stairs to the rooms and living room. The access to the pool also has some little stairs.
