Our place is and easy walk down the hill to downtown Stonington shops and kayak launching ramp. Quiet, off the street with a nice woods walk behind the house to the top of the hill and spectacular views. Wrap around porch has pocket views to the harbor.

Le logement

Enjoy this charming cottage that is the best of the old and the new in an off-road location just out of town above Stonington Harbor. The living and sleeping area built in the 1890s as the superintendent's office for the first quarry in Stonington. The kitchen and bath are entirely new in 2016. A wrap-around porch completes the building, with pocket views out to the harbor and islands, including Isle au Haut.

Autres remarques

The second bedroom is actually a room that is at the top of the stairs, without privacy. It is spacious (for our little house) with windows on two sides, but not private.

Robins place is lovely. The newly remodeled kitchen has everything you might need and it's located conveniently to town. If you like hiking in wild and scenic places Isle Au Haut is an easy day trip on the ferry. There are also many nature preserves on Deer Isle to explore. The hosts are equally lovely, very helpful and accommodating.

The Roost is an ideal summer spot in Stonington. The new kitchen and bathroom are spotless and convenient, and the rest of the cottage is spacious and charming. The Roost is worth a stop!

Our family of four (including our two college age boys), thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 'The Roost"!! Robin, is a great host, she was responsive, informative and kept the light on for us when we arrived much, much later than planned. The house is clean, cozy and comfortable, with an updated kitchen and bathroom. The wrap around porch drew visitors for morning coffee, afternoon reading and after dinner chats. We loved the fact that we were staying in a house with historic ties to Stonington. I loved looking at the kitchen window to find lobster traps in the backyard, (#whenyouknowyouareinmaine!) The Roost is located a short walk away from the downtown area of the charming town of Stonington. We took time to stroll through town admiring the late 19th century architecture, shoppes and active and bustling harbor. Great food was had harbor side at Stonecutters too. We couldn't have asked for a better experience for our first visit to the Maine Coast. We were able to enjoy Stonington and the surrounding area and it was convenient to Acadia and Mt. Desert Island. I highly recommend a kayak tour as well, what a thrill paddling around and visiting the small islands just off the shoreline. Our only negative - is that we could not stay longer!! We are looking forward planning a return visit. Thanks again!!

Wonderful place. We got the best lobster we've ever had on the island. The kitchen is excellent.

The Roost is just perfect for visiting Stonington with its lively town center and all the local activities like kayaking or boating trips. The house is adorable and the kitchen and bath are new. There is a full size washer and dryer right off the kitchen too. The hosts have thought of everything, right down to the gas grill on the wraparound porch. The essential coffee place and farmers' market are within easy walking distance. I will definitely be back!

The Roost, we learned, is historic in that it was the residence of the Supervisor for the Quarries in the 19th century. The structure was old, but well built, and it had all the modern amenities which made it the best of both worlds. Easy 3 minute walk down the hill to downtown Stonington with scenic views pretty much everywhere we looked. Would recommend this as a great place to stay for a small family trying to vacation in this area on a budget.

Réponse de Robin :
We are so glad that the Roost worked for your family. I regret that it was tough to find us. I have added a note at the beginning of the directions on the site that says, "DO NOT depend on GPS." The Town is trying to get (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) to map the streets more accurately but since many people's phones do not work in town, that is also a moot point. I'm happy to put this in the comments so that people know to print out the directions.
