Le logement

Hi, thanks for checking out my listing, and I look forward to meeting you!
This home is always kept clean and tidy, I enjoy the company of having guests stay with me through Airbnb. I do not often entertain or have visitors at my house, otherwise my social scene is out and about in this great city. :)

There are 2 separate room listings, 2 Main Floor rooms. They are booked separately. I live alone, so there can be 1 or 2 guests in the home.

Please have a validated Airbnb account with a profile and photo. Thanks very much. This is a private home.

Wifi passwords and move in Info given directly upon booking confirmation with Airbnb. You have it before you arrive.

This house was built in 1967, and is a bungallo style. All hard wood upstairs, and a finished basement.
You will be sharing the house with me, the owner, it is a 5 bedroom house, where all rooms are dedicated to different things.

It has a lovely garden in the Spring, Summer and Fall, with a big Mayday tree, lots of flowers, vines, and even A few grape vines. Have a lovely time under the tree in the sitting area under the big tree. Pick strawberries and Raspberries. :)
Or, fire up the BBQ and have a feast.
Lots of street parking.

The room has a Queen size bed, just across the hall from the shared Bathroom, There is also a 1/2 bathroom downstairs for ease in getting ready for the day. Full laundry, Wifi, Cable in the room. Your room is on the Main floor, with a full sized opening North Facing window.

15 minute drive to the Stampede grounds, or 20 min bus and train ride. Very fast to get there, and far from the noise and craziness of Stampede time in July.

Close to Blackfoot Trail, Mac Leod trail, and Deerfoot trail, and Glenmore Trail, for fast movement around the city.
Downtown is only a 20 min. bus or drive.
Close to several Major Shopping malls, Chinook Centre and South Centre, Ikea, etc. 1 km from several supermarkets.
- Pubs and restaurants galore, with great patios.

I am is a singer songwriter, so the house has some instruments, I am usually only playing my acoustic guitar occasionally. I enjoy good music.
Piano in the Living room, Guitars. :)
However, the I believe in quiet times of course, and expects mutual respect in regards to noise and volume. The Upstairs is treated as more of a quiet area, when people are winding down their days, or sleeping. Sleep times are respected. Normal courtesy around all that is great.

Owner enjoys, Skiing, mountain biking, cycling, hiking, and many other activities.
Live music...

Calgary is known for its amazing bike pathways, and from the house, you can be down to the river pathways in 10 minutes, and lose yourself for hours.

Kananaskis hiking, mountain biking, downhill mountain biking, cycling, and camping is only a 45 min drive away.
Banff is a 1 hour drive from Calgary, and the magnificent Rocky Mountains.

Skiing: Nakiska, 1.5 hour drive, Sunshine 1.3 hours + gondola up = 2 hours, Lake Louise is our favourite and is a 2 hour drive, Kicking Horse, 3 hours.
There is Canada Olympic park, which is in town, and has all day skiing, luge, etc.

Heritage park, is only a 10 minute drive away, or 15 min. bike ride, where there is also the Glenmore Reservoir, more like a natural park that takes 1 hour to cycle around, beautiful at sunset, or any time of the day. Ice creams, cafes and such around the pathway.
Calgary zoo is 20 minute drive.

Interaction with guests is a great part of hosting a house, and its a many flavoured experience! I enjoy having many types of guests. The best are the most friendliest and courteous of course. ;)) Some are more quiet, and keep to themselves, as their rooms are well equipped if they desire to do so, Others, are more social and interactive, some become friends. I have had long term guests as well who after staying for a month, decided to stay on and on, longest was 2 years. Some are less chatty, and some are more. I am open to all types of experiences, and welcome people into my home. I encourage them to live here, as they would in their own home. Some like to Cook Together, and share stories and conversation, some are working all day and night it seems, and eat out mostly. Depends on the guest really. I prefer someone with good friendly conversation, and who does not hesitate to talk to me about any of their needs during stay.
Communication of any concerns is best between 9am and 9pm. I find. Some people who are busy, and not around at all, send texts or Emails late at night, or early morning. These will be answered at the first possible convenience, within a reasonable amount of time.

Previous Guests; reviews below: Both Phil's were fantastic guys, and one stayed with me for a month or more and both became friends, we did many things together, hikes and such, as they mention and keep in touch, although they are world travellers. :) There is a review from another guest on my other room listing also, Tonette, and she was a lovely lady, we cooked together a few nights in a row. She was here to see clients around the Calgary area.
I have had many other guests stay also, yet many have not left a review, or their time ran out to do so. Some stayed on longer for several months. The longest was 2 years.
Mostly, guests tend to keep to themselves, and go about their daily routines and adventures.

There are a few requests that we have for guests, to make their stay more enjoyable, and to keep the household harmony, and for the best over all experience for everyone. :)
Please be respectful to Owners belongings and property. Come to enjoy. :)
If there is anything you need upon arrival, that is not listed in my extensive online lists, please ask and it will be quickly taken care of. :) Don't be afraid to knock on a door and ask if its needed or urgent.

Normal expectations of your stay apply:
Please keep the shared bathrooms and kitchen tidy and clean after use.

The house has two bathrooms for your convenience. :)
We request to please put toilet seat down before flushing, to assure that the plume of the flush does not coat the bathroom when flushing, believe it or not, it can reach up to 7 feet. I know! I was surprised too when I found out. :)) It changed my bathroom habits as well. :)) As you can imagine, there are toothbrushes, handles, towels and such out. :) Its a good healthy practice that we have adopted.

Please use the Downstairs bathroom only, during times of sleep, as the upstairs bathroom plumbing is against the main bedroom wall and the sink and toilet can be loud in a quite house upstairs in the sleeping area. Feel free to use the shower at normal times, it is not noisy like the other two. :) Its not crazy loud or anything, ;) but can waken a sleeper, as the house is quite quiet, which is great! No road noises, no sirens, no bars or clubs. Just trees, birds, and happy people. :))
Please keep the kitchen clean and kept immediately after use.

No Smoking. If I do agree to renting to a smoker, or you have a smoking guest at some point, they must smoke only at end of front pathway at sidewalk or back lane, so no smoke wafts back into the house, and fully exhaled all smoke before entering the house please and thank you. :) All Butts must be disposed of properly and not simply tossed about, neighbours don't appreciate that of course.
Please be friendly and courteous, this is a private home.
Please ask to use any of the extra house amenities, such as TV, Stereo, etc.
General courtesy and friendly atmosphere are encouraged. :)

If communicating via email and text during your stay, please make it between 8:30 am and 10pm. Any texts or messages sent in the night between these times will most likely be answered the following day, at the first possible time. The owner is available for anything during these day hours. Feel free to talk in person in the house of course! Always available if I'm up and about. :)) I love to help, give directions, suggestions on places to see, things to do, where to eat etc. etc. etc. :)

There are no other House Rules after Arrival. Perhaps a request once in a while, as I am open to requests as well. :))

The bed was comfortable and the room was a decent size. The house rules listed on the website are different than the ones specified after I arrived and need to be clarified before booking this place. Communication needs to improve with this host, I never received the wifi password until late on the 2nd last night. As well I specified that I need an iron and ironing board and I never did see it. Ashley is a new host and needs to streamline the service for the next guest. I trust my feedback helps him reach that point. He was a great person to talk with and always friendly.

Firstly Wifi is given now upon booking to avoid any confusion. The iron is always out, in full view at the base of the basement stairs, as I informed you the moment you asked for one via voice mail on the second day. Thanks for staying Jesse, sorry you had problems. Unfortunately when you arrived, you dropped your gear and rushed out, this is usually the time when I do a walk through with a guest and show them the house, and give them wifi etc. I figured we would go over the small details when you were back in the evening of your first night. Unfortunately you arrived very late and after the whole house was asleep. The light at my door was on still however, so you could have knocked if you needed anything immediately. I didn't hear from you until the first morning, the next day, when you requested the iron, and I told you in a text message where to find it. You also how to get wifi and password and I told you there is a document in the kitchen that has the wifi password. You had some trouble with that when you arrived back at the house, very late again, but you chose to send an email request 11:50 at night the second night, when you could have just knocked on my door once again, as my light was on, but lucky for you I was awake, saw this email at 1 am, and sent you a full detailed move in packet. Full with the wifi codes, some walk in suggestions for house and home harmony, that would usually be talked about one on one, these were not house rules as you assumed, but suggestions for harmony with other guests and myself, and none are unreasonable to anyone, in the 1 year I have hosted, but most say, oh yes, sounds good, or something in that manner. The next morning, I got an email from you, that you didn't receive my email, which happened to be 3 emails, and didn't receive the wifi codes or the information. To clarify what you meant by that, you said you didn't see my email until after you had left in the morning, yet, this is how you chose to communicate, by email, so I'm surprised you did not check for reply? Strangely, in your email reply to me, when I scrolled down your email reply, right there, was my email to you with the wifi codes in bold, and the document that I spent many hours crafting with all the information, amenities and services within a 5 km radius. Also, once again I shared where the Iron was. Sorry you had such trouble Jesse, but I'm afraid you need to take some responsibility in your communication skills yourself, as you were never around, and did not make any attempt on one on one communication during your entire stay. I saw you at 11am on your arrival for 3 minutes, then you dashed out the door, afterwards I did not see you again. You left early, and came home late. Next time you stay somewhere you may want to inform this of your host, so they can properly assist you with your needs, and they know when they can get any information to you that you may need. Best is to handle all this at check in, like as in a hotel, thats what I usually do, and its worked great for me. :)) I actually have a guest who has been with me for over 8 months, he loves the place, and his privacy, he loves his comfy bed, and the house company. :) As for the wifi code, it is now sent via email at check in, as is a welcome packet of information. The Iron is listed with location right on the room profile. I will ad as a last note, that when you were looking to book the room, you sent several questions in your many inquires. I did answer all of them of course, but every question you asked, is actually listed and covered in my room's profile page. So, I am actually a more "attention to detail" sort of host, and its my goal to give my guests the best experience, and environment of them I can, in my own home and living area. :)) I hope you have better luck in the future with your stays, I recommend reading a host's entire room profile, as your questions can be answered within that very often, and don't be afraid to just knock on a door, and ask a question. We do live in a digital age, but texts and emails are not as immediate as people imagine they are. Since we are under the same roof, just give a knock, and all will be well. Good luck in the future!

I spent 7 days with Ashley and I was made very welcome. His nice home is set in a quiet area of Calgary with a bus and a train into central (approx 30-40 min's). the room was private and comfortable. Ashley is a great guy who is very Knowledgeable on many levels, we spent many an hour discussing various aspects of life. On a few occasion, Ashley took me around the city and explained various aspects. On my last day, Ashley offer to drive us into the mountains and show me Lake Louise and Banff - unforgettable!! Which ever way to get to these locations, they are a must for you trip to Calgary (take the hike up to "The beehive"

Ashley was a great host and had a cozy place in the suburbs of Calgary. He brought me around to some awesome restaurants and pubs in the city. He also brought me to Banff and on a hike to Lake Louise (he's the best tour guide you can find!).
