Description

Spacious yet cosy, historic yet stylish, The Old Vicarage is a characterful 400 year old, Grade II listed Cornish cottage situated in the heart of ancient Looe’s quaint town centre and a minute’s stroll to the beach.

[Please note that the photographs of the cottage in the gallery are pre-renovation. Professional photographs of the newly renovated house will be posted shortly.]

Built in the 1600s, The Old Vicarage is a Grade II listed building with the English Heritage. The cottage retains many of its original, characterful features including a flagstone hallway and beams.

Recently redecorated and refurbished to a high standard, The Old Vicarage (which is arranged over three floors) can accommodate up to 8 adults (with extra sleeping capacity for a child and a baby). It includes a wood burning stove (ideal for creating a cosy cottage atmosphere, especially during winter evenings), a private courtyard garden (with BBQ) and a large Jacuzzi bath (perfect after a day spent enjoying any one of Looe’s excellent outdoor activities).

The cottage is an inviting and well-equipped holiday home - perfect for summer or winter escapes.

Hire of The Old Vicarage is on the following basis:

- Peak season: 7 day minimum booking (no short breaks negotiable) Saturday to Saturday. Our peak season dates for 2016 are as follows: 22nd October-29th October; 24th December-7th January 2017. Our peak season dates for 2017 are as follows: 11th February-18th February; 1st April-22th April; 29th April-23rd September; 21st October-28th October; 23rd December-6th January 2018
During the music festival (29th September to 1st October) our minimum stay is 7 nights with a flexible arrival date

- Off peak season: Short breaks are available during our off peak season. The minimum stay is 4 nights.

Partial occupancy can be accommodated during our off-peak season – please contact us for further information.

We bought The Old Vicarage in March 2016, having fallen in love with this beautiful, historic cottage as well as East Looe’s beautiful beaches, cliffs, excellent amenities, warm climate and friendliness.

Due to family and work commitments in London, we are unable to live at the cottage full-time so, after spending some time lovingly renovating it, we decided to let our beautiful and historic home for other families to enjoy and create holidays to remember. We very much hope that you, your families and friends will love The Old Vicarage as much as we do.

We have a local caretaker who manages the property for us and who will assist you in the event of an emergency; other than that our house is your home during your holiday and you will be left in peace to enjoy it.

We both enjoy hosting and contact with our guests so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about The Old Vicarage or Looe more generally. We look forward to hearing from you!

The cottage is set in a prime location in the heart of old East Looe, nestled away in Looe's quaint backstreets and less than a minute's walk to the sandy beach with its many rock pools, harbour, (fishing trips and ferry cruises), costal paths (perfect for dog walking or exploring wildlife), some great traditional pubs and award winning restaurants. The South West Coast Path's stunning scenery is within easy reach, as well as the many other Cornish attractions that lie outside Looe (including Talland Bay, Polperro’s picturesque fishing port, The Woolly Monkey Sanctuary and the internationally renowned Eden Project). For our active guests diving, sailing, fishing, walking and more are at your fingertips.

Towards the end of September, Looe hosts a famous music festival on the local beach that should not be missed (see our gallery for photographs).

On New Year's Eve, Looe provides a surprisingly exciting and large celebration. This small, quaint seaside town is host to an influx of visitors. People flock to the streets in their hundreds, wearing fancy dress, a tradition upheld by all ages. The crowds begin the evening in the town and slowly move towards the seafront for a fireworks display to see in the New Year.

CAR:
East Looe town, with its narrow winding lanes, is a traffic restricted zone, with access for local residents only, making it very pedestrian friendly.
Although there is no on-site parking for The Old Vicarage, you are able to offload along the side of the house (next to the former church building).
There is ample long-stay public parking available 10 minute walk away over the bridge in West Looe at the Millpool Car Park. We recommend guests use the Millpool car park during their stay (as a 24 hour ticket costs £5.50 and a weekly ticket costs £38.50).
There are also two smaller short-stay car parks in East Looe (Buller Quay and Riverbank): both of these cost more than Millpool and can be very busy during high season.

RAIL:
The house is a 10 minute walk from Looe train station. There is a branch line railway between Liskeard and Looe. National network rail services from Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, London, Birmingham and places further north stop at Liskeard.
The Liskeard - Looe service runs all day until early evening at intervals of between one and two hours. For timetable information please visit Great Western website.
A trip on the railway from Looe to Liskeard, or beyond, is a favourite outing for holidaymakers as the Looe Valley line is very scenic (see picture above). If you have a choice, take the trip at high tide when the river views are best (the railway line runs immediately next to the Looe river estuary for its full length) and avoid very busy times as the trains, which are only two carriages, can be very full with day visitors.

BUSES:
Service 72 (Polperro - Looe - Plymouth)
Service 73 (Polperro - Looe - Liskeard station and town)
Bus services to the nearby picturesque fishing villages Polperro and Polruan leave from the bus stop opposite the Health Centre, by the bridge.
