Carole's welcome was very warm and she made the whole experience very casual and easy.
The house itself is very spacious and clean, and big and comfortable enough to lounge around in if its raining or you're just feeling lazy.
The property backs on to the bush, through which you can walk for about five minutes along a well-cleared path to access a long, nearly empty, white-sand beach. We saw wallabies (or pademelons or the like), sea eagles, different cockatoos, kookaburras, figbirds, a big goanna, lots of brush turkeys, and countless other cool animals just in that short walk each day.
Just two things for potential guests to be aware of:
The house is basically on the same property as another house (the owners' main house), without a dividing fence. Most of the airbnb listings from around byron are actually like this, but they don't make this clear in their descriptions. In this case, however, there are separate gates for accessing the two houses from the road, a fence separating the entrance areas, and the front of the airbnb house is an enclosed verandah which looks out into it's own spacious garden which is bordered by the bush.
The other thing is that, for the kitchen, the hosts only provide coffee, black tea bags, sugar and milo, so if you're planning on cooking, you should stop by the supermarket in nearby New Brighton for cooking oil, etc on your way there.
