.This is the only time in 3 years & multiple airbnb experiences where I’ve had a negative experience, wished I’d not stayed, and have therefore delayed review. I will mention only some of the issues for courtesy to Sam, but have written personally in greater detail - not even covering every aspect.
Sam was a delight to meet & welcomed me warmly. The only surprise at that time was seeing what had been pictured as a lovely pair of chairs below a well-trimmed grape arbor was not quite as pictured. I’d made a 3 night reservation to have 2 full days of complete relaxation based on past reviews, photos, & promise of quiet, dreams of this arbor sheltering reading & journaling. It was in fact way overgrown & chairs dirty with fallen grapes & debris. Still, the back garden looked intriguing & indoors looked lovely and promising!
Unfortunately Sam left next morning to travel & was not returning ‘til after I checked out. Her husband & teen boys are apparently not supportive of her wishes for lovely, quiet guest experiences. There was much yelling & arguing throughout the house, easily heard, along with other sounds, through the adjoining door & walls… husband was disinterested when bath malfunctioned noisily late evening, even though I’d not even used it… and later someone’s late night bath above rendered loud water running, draining, and really loud water hammers every few minutes for about 45 minutes, ending around 1:20am the night before I was to check out. Unable to sleep for some time after that, I overslept to check-out time, leaving me feeling no time to shower as planned. Be aware there is also noise from the freeway above coming through the large skylights. The private covered patio is lovely, with microwave to heat leftovers. It was a bit chilly sitting to eat the 2nd night as temperatures dipped.
The bed was wonderfully wide & comfortable, with soft pillows available – if only I’d not been woken by the arguing, I’d have spent the rainy day lounging in bed & bath as planned. Instead I escaped & went elsewhere for the day, returning to a noisy, disruptive evening.
There are a few other points but I’ll leave it as is.
I really do not like having to give a negative review, but I must be honest. I wish I’d not splurged… but am so grateful I refrained from my first instinct to extend my stay when I first arrived. My connectivity was very limited while I traveled in BC, having no phone access & little wifi availability or I’d have responded earlier… I wanted to keep the rest of my journey pleasant and it was.
I wish Sam the best but I will not be returning.
