Description

Our cool and cozy 1 bedroom is located just a few 100m from the beach near Diamond Head. It has a large tropical yard with Bar-B-Q to savor fabulous views of the Koolau Mountains. Truly a great & convenient location to explore the island from - near & far.

This is a one bedroom apartment with private entrance in a large home with an even bigger yard. It is only a few hundred meters from the ocean yet also has inspiring views of the Koolau Mountain Range. Sleeps two with potential for more on request.

You will have a furnished 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment with complete kitchen and accoutrements.
You will be greeted on arrival and familiarized with the property and guest information.

We're available as needed to provide local knowledge from A-Z (Airport transport - Zoo hours) & more useful examples: preferred restaurants, scenic and tranquil hikes, entertaining events, swimming and surfing spots etc.

Our home is lococated just 300m from Ka’alawai Beach which lies at the base of Diamond Head’s eastern slope between Kuilei Cliff Beach Park to the west and Black Point to the east. Ka’alawai is a narrow strip of sand that fronts the upscale community of Ka’alawai near our home. This isolates the beach from typical crowds, virtually ensuring you will only be sharing the beach with a few surfers and local neighborhood residents. The only public access is just 300m from our home, hidden in a maze of residential streets with no signs pointing the way or identifying beach access. This golden stretch of sand is one of Oahu’s most picturesque with its backdrop of multimillion dollar homes framed by Hawaii’s most famous volcano crater – Diamond Head. The beach is mainly used by surfers to access popular surf spots (Cromwell’s, Brown’s etc.) beyond the reef. The shallow reef that flanks the beach extends all the way to the shoreline limiting the swimming area. Nevertheless, there are a few pockets of small sandy bottom areas suitable for swimming along the beach. The reef, however, does create an excellent opportunity to do some tide pool exploration with the children! This is an excellent place to bring some water shoes and check out some of Hawaii’s varied marine life. The beach is also lined with palm trees and shrubs, mostly used to maintain privacy for nearby houses, but they consequently create vast shady areas suitable for a cool respite when you are ready for a break from the sun. It is an ideal location for a picnic lunch! At the east end of the beach near Black Point, a black lava rock peninsula, is Shangri-La, a mansion turned museum, built by Doris Duke, the daughter of James Duke, the founder of the American Tobacco Company, and her husband, James Cromwell, in 1937. Upon her father's death, the socialite became one of the wealthiest women in the world. On her honeymoon, she visited Hawaii and the Middle East and became enamored with both. The newlyweds purchased five acres of beachfront property and built the manor which upon her death, per her wishes, became a center for the study, understanding, and preservation of Islamic art and culture. Perhaps its most popular feature though is not the house’s architecture or extensive Islamic art collection, but its small cove created to accommodate their yacht. Named after her husband, Cromwell’s Cove is now a popular swimming spot for local teens. It’s protected blue waters, deep depth, and sandy bottom make it an ideal location to jump off the surrounding lava rock wall and go for a swim. There are other beaches better suited for swimming, especially for families, nearby. If a family dip in the ocean is your objective, consider Kai’mana Beach Park just a couple miles toward Waikiki and the beach fronting the Kahala Hotel and Resort just a couple miles to the east at the end of Kahala Ave.
It is a prime location near Diamond Head on the Island of Oahu. Also, just over a mile to the Kahala Mall ( 8plex movie theater, WHOLE FOODS, Macys, Apple Restaurants). Waikiki is just on the other side of Diamond Head a mere 5 minutes away. As is Kapiolani Park, The Honolulu Zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium. In the other direction, just a couple minutes away, is the Kahala Hotel & Resort with fine dining (Hoku's, Plumeria Beach House) and dolphin encounters. The home is truly minutes from surf spots, swimming, hiking, restaurants, bars, shopping, theater, night clubs & farmer's markets.
It is the best location just out of the city and Waikiki, but with easy access if you'd like. The airport is 20 minutes away, Waikiki 5, Honolulu 10-15, Diamond Head Community College 2, University of Hawaii 10, Kailua 30, North Shore 45.

Great location to where we needed to be (Kahala resort). Large one bedroom, good size kitchen; shower had good water pressure. Very nice place overall.

Very roomy, amazing value! Private, quiet, amazing neighborhood! Less than a mile to Diamondhead and minutes to downtown Honolulu. Mike was so accommodating and willing to share his time and energy with us... a great example of the Aloha spirit. Next time we are staying more than just two nights. Free laundry, free parking, free use of all beach toys. Thanks Mike!!

Really cute apartment in a finished basement of a beautiful home. The location was great! I could walk to the beach, and to Diamond Head easily. I was far enough away from Waikiki that I was able to relax in the natural beauty of Diamond Head, yet Waikiki is only a 5-10 min drive away (or an Uber ride of less than $10) which made for great dinner/nightlife opportunities! The owner was great and very willing/eager to please and accommodate. I'd highly recommend staying here, especially for the price!

Great area in honululu. Upscale neighborhood, and about a 5-10 min walk to the beach! Mike was great, communication about check in and check out was clearly communicated! The apt is very basic, but covers all your needs!

Rental is a basement-type space. Could use some sprucing up and bed was really uncomfortable (old).

I never met Michael, we corresponded via text and email. Had to leave early and come back to the mainland. I had booked for 4 nights, left on the afternoon of the 3rd night, and wasn't reimbursed for the 4th day and night that I wasn't there. So very strict reservation policy.

I'm Mike from Hawaii and Switzerland. I first came to Hawaii in 1986. I taught tennis and raced as a professional triathlete. After about 10 years in Hawaii I moved to Switzerland where I did my doctorate in Physiology. I moved back to Hawaii in 2006 after living in New York City area where I coached endurance athletes and taught at Columbia. I still coach and also work as a firefighter and real estate broker. For fun, I like being outdoors, hiking and sports. I still swim, bike and run regularly and enjoy playing tennis, surfing, kayaking etc.

I live in the same home that the apartments are in. I chose this area because it is the best location on Oahu. It rests in a quiet upscale neighborhood yet is close to Waikiki. It offers the best combination of proximity to the ocean and beach while still being near entertainment, restaurants and events. Finally, the area has great sunny weather and is convenient for reaching other locations on the island.
