Have a proper break at our comfortable restored Mill. It is a large, self-catering, 4 bed-room apartment attached to our home. Ideal for 1-8 people, with good facilities and super beds. Our Mill is just an hour from the vibrant city of Bordeaux and only 20 minutes from gorgeous St Emilion. Or go to the vines for tastings, bike rides and walks. Stay home to enjoy outdoor eating, our river and mill pond and experience the tranquility of our woods and fields

Le logement
The Space

The Moulin de Bracaud offers guests peace and tranquility in a beautiful environment. We want our guests to feel relaxed and to enjoy our family home. We are a work in progress, our personal home, the gite and the grounds but we welcome you fully to enjoy this special place.
The apartment in the larger wing of the Mill provides a comfortable and self-contained 4-bedroom gite. This is private and contains 2 double bedrooms, one twin and one family room, a large salon / dining room, bathroom, WC and kitchen. It is light and airy with lots of large windows that open completely, letting in the sound of the river, the wind in the trees and the singing of birds.
The gite has been designed to be characterful and elegant but also clean, simple and modern. So there are good facilities including dishwasher and washing machine, a marble floored bathroom with modern shower and bath, a large salon with polished stone floor and woodburner and four bedrooms with inspiring views across the gardens.
The mill house is surrounded by fields and woods, and bordered by the mill stream. It is a magical place for children to explore, but as it is nature they must be supervised at all times.
The pond is a place to do yoga, read, or use our little row boat... bliss. The woods and vines beckon cyclists, leisurely or serious.
Tea and coffee is available in the kitchen for our guests. We are happy to provide fresh bread and croissants for the first breakfast, if you let us know in advance and if we are here, as we are a working house we are out or away quite a bit.
If you are are wanting a bit more than just peace and tranquillity, the beautiful and vibrant town of St Emilion, with its restaurants, cafes and vignerons is only 20 minutes away by car. Bordeaux is only an hour away by car, 45 minutes by train from the nearby town, Castillon La Bataille.
Visitors are welcome bring your own bikes or to borrow the family bikes to explore the area. There is nothing quite like a cycle amongst the vineyards. Heaven.
With advanced notice, we can also organise trips to special wine chateaux for tours of the chais and tastings of the superb wines.

Où se situe le logement

Saint-Michel-de-Montaigne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

The Moulin de Bracaud can be found near the Chateau of the celebrated French writer and philosopher, Michel de Montaigne - just outside the village of Saint Michel de Montaigne in the Dordogne. The train station at Castillon-La-Bataille is just 10 minutes' drive away with hourly trains to Bordeaux and Bergerac, so a day's outing is easy by train without the stress of driving.
There is a Monday market at Castillon La Bataille, with boulangeries and supermarkets. There is the famed Ste Foy La Grande, Saturday market only 25 minutes drive, again with shops, supermarkets etc.

I am a kiwi, and my husband is British and we, with my 16year old son, have lived in France for 3 years. My french is improving, my son is now fluent. My simple wish is to share our naturally tranquil property with others. We are in the compagne so sometimes nature gets in, but we do our level best to keep it all at bay. And sometimes wifi dips and cuts out if it pours with rain. C'est la compagne, c'est le nature. For us that is the charm an the challenge. I am actually quite shy but really do love people and enjoy sharing so somehow, between us as a family, being a host works. As a traveller I am curious, interested, relaxed and simply appreciate natural people and places. Who wouldn't love decadence and opulence, but my budget is middle of the road so I appreciate kindness, cleanliness, a genuine experience. As a host I feel the responsibility of being a good host so will be involved as you need. But as a kiwi, we are a mix of do-it-yourself and arm round for a chat. We love being active and our surroundings so we walk, cycle, swim in the local Lac, head to the ocean, play tennis at a free local court etc. We love also food, so we are still discovering treasures and our beloved routier restaurant, le Relais de Gascogne. I go there when I'm feeling down or homesick, just to get the love of the owners and staff. I love them! And in the summer all the jazz and music fest, nearby and in Bordeaux and Bergerac. We are spoiled for choice. One of my mottos is a classic but I 100%believe in it, 'treat others as you would want to be treated, or before I say or do anything, how would I feel if someone said or did that to me.'

We are happy to have as little or as much interaction with you as you would like, when we are there. We are a working house and can be required to be in different places so sometimes you may have the place all to yourselves.
We will always help guests with any queries or requests they have. Suggestions can be made for interesting places to visits, good restaurants and other activities, vraiment français ou a mix of touristy and french. Visits can be organised to private wine chateaux in the area, including Saint Emilion for tours and tastings.
