Description

The Blue House si located in the heart of the old and fascinating Ribeira, a little peninsula surrounded by the sea of Todos Os Santos bay. The archipelago is just in face, with its night lights that mingling with the stars and its beautiful sunsets.
Near by the Blue House there's the beach where you can find fisherman's kiosk, bars whith live samba and traditional food, like the great" Muqueca", a fish soap with african influence.
Ribeira is a unique place, you can relax yourself with its sea quiet or you can enjoy the reverly corners! And you can live “face to face” with the local people, the soul of this wonderful bohemian neighborhood.
Also, you can take advantage of Icbie cultural events, an italian Ong that organizes courses of music, dance, theater, language and computing. Please have a look in the website: (website hidden)

The Blue House is composed of two apartments: the first on the ground floor, the other on the first and second floor. When I'm not in Salvador, both are avaiable.
The second apartment is 110 sqm and is fournished. It has a large modern kitchen with dining room where, in the middle, takes place a large oval marble table. Then we have a small bathroom and a living room with confortable leather sofas and a library.
Get on and arrive on the second floor in the night space, here there's a big double room with a giant bed ( m 2.20 x 2.00...“I was a basket player”), a white hammock under the windows, a little desk and a wardrobe. Everything is simple and spacious, essential and comfortable.
The second floor go on with an other double room, a hallway provided of washing machine and a blue bathroom with bath and shower.
This apartment has been recently renovated and enjoys of an excellent lightness and ventilation. It's perfect for families, couples or groups of friends who don't search the confort of a luxury hotel but prefer live Brazil among its people. Here, you won't find internet connection or cable tv, but an house open to the neighborhood, to the life arround.
For those who can't stay away from a pc, don't worry, just few steps and there's an internet café .
Pelourinho is only 15 minutes away (without traffic) and the rest of the city is well reached by bus or taxi.
The Blue House has an excellent relation between quality and price, at least by the moment.
Prices rise up in high season, during carnival, summer holidays, last day of the year and football world cup.
Our only request is to leave the house as you found it.
Enjoy your stay!

// We spent three weeks with our two daughters who are 2 and 5 years old in Davide's house. It is spacious, charming, and quite nice, although the comfort is minimal : no hot water (but not a problem when the temperature is over 30 C), no air conditioning, mattresses as well as the gas cooker are not in a good shape. For us, it was only details which did not prevent us from feeling very well. We also really liked Ribeira : it is popular, not touristic, but very pleasant and charming, surrounded by beaches and a small harbour. It takes 30 minutes by bus to reach the Pelourinho, when there is no traffic, otherwise it is rather 45 minutes. The communication with Davide was very easy. He answered our numerous questions, helped us to find a taxi and put us in connection with the ICBIE association, close to the house, where we met great people who speak english (very rare in Salvador). A great place for people who are not looking for the comfort of touristic places and hotels.

My partner and I stayed in Davide's apartment in Ribeira for one month during the Brazil World Cup. Although Davide was not in Brazil during our stay, he was responsive and took the initiative to communicate via email both before and during (and after, actually) our stay. His friends at the ICBIE (Institute of Culture Brazil-Italy-Europe) welcomed us to the house, answered our questions and invited us to spend time at their Institute and hostel (a few blocks away) - this gave us the opportunity to meet and spend time with a wonderful community of Brazilians and international folks throughout the weeks of our stay. Davide's apartment is bright, pleasant, and well maintained. He allowed us to make use of his dishes and linens, which were sufficient. The apartment felt very safe and comfortable. Ribeira is a working-class neighborhood of small homes, with some Brazilian tourists visiting for the beaches and ice cream shops, but very, very few international tourists. It was a rich cultural experience, lively with children, old folks, and other characters, and the apartment is half a block from the beach. The beaches in Ribeira are lovely, but not always well maintained and sometimes have garbage. On sunny weekends they are full of Brazilians playing soccer and volleyball. There was often loud music and (especially on days when Brazil was playing in the Cup) firecrackers and yelling outside - this is wonderful at times but can be frustrating at night. Buses took about 25 minutes to get downtown, and were easy to take in both directions since Ribeira is at the end of the line. Also convenient was that you can't really get lost in the neighborhood, as it is a narrow peninsula! Ribeira is the perfect place to immerse yourself in Bahian culture and the experience of Brazilian day-to-day life. The people are kind, though for the most part not accustomed to foreigners. This is not the place for someone looking for tourism infrastructure/services and to be around lots of other tourists. To spend time relaxing, learning some Portuguese, meeting people locally and through the ICBIE, eating Salvadorean foods and walking on the beaches, and occasionally visiting the downtown Pelourinho and elsewhere in the city, it was perfect.
