Description

Located in Montana's Bitterroot Valley, our quiet and spacious"River Room" offers coffee, microwave, and refrigerator for your convenience, along with a private bath. Guests are welcome to use the patio and gas grill in the summer, as well as the quiet reading area at the barn. We have dogs and a very large cat, and much wildlife surrounding our location. TV is not offered, but quiet, beautiful surroundings abound!

A quiet and charming sunny corner room is spacious, private, and comfortable. Located on a western style ranch setting, we offer a perfect place to kick off your shoes and relax. We offer a microwave, coffee, and refrigerator in the room for your convenience, and a large private bath. In the summer, guests are welcome to use the patio and gas grill, and in the winter, a living room with enclosed fireplace offers a warm and cozy setting.

Surrounded by beauty, and close to the 50 mile bike path and wildlife preserve, nature is at your door! We offer a seasonal conversation area at the barn, with sofas, chairs, and the great outdoors. TV is not provided, and with so much to do and see, we promise you won't miss it!

With a location close to all that Missoula and the Bitterroot Valley have to offer, you can be minutes from fishing, music, hiking, biking, or just enjoy our quiet space. We know that once you enter through the gate, you can leave the world behind, and enjoy Montana at it's finest.

We are happy to recommend local food, fly fishing, hunting, or guide services. Western Montana a world-renowned for it's blue ribbon fishing and water activities such as rafting and kayaking. Missoula offers upscale art galleries, river dining, and an eclectic hub for music and entertainment. Let us know in advance if you have something in mind, we will try to accommodate you!

Due to predators and other pet related issues, outside pets are not allowed. Smoking is also not permitted on the premises. We do have a roll-away to accommodate a 3rd person for an extra charge of $35 per night. Please let us know in advance.

Make yourself comfortable in our home, patio, barn, and surrounding property. We have wonderful areas to walk, bike, or just sit and relax.

We do have a barn and corral for accommodating horses, but need advanced notice. Horse accommodation fees are $35 per night, and do not include feed or supplies. We have parking available for horse trailers, but no dump site or RV availability.

Interaction varies with guest/host availability and preference.

I need a working e-mail and a US working cell phone for all reservations and, according to the Patriot Act, we keep and maintain guest records.

We live in a very rural setting with minimal traffic, crowds, or noise. Montana has roaming ranches with bison, yet share their land with predators, elk, deer, and other wildlife. It is not uncommon to see antelope or deer grazing with cattle.

Located in the heart of the western frontier, many historical sites documenting Lewis and Clark, native american tribes, and mining towns dot the landscape and provide insight and information to the culture that still exists in Montana today. Vigilantes, miners, outlaws, and pioneers have all made Montana's history rich and colorful. There is a saying here that Montana is just one very large town, with exceptionally long roads. You will find most people here to be friendly, helpful and accommodating. Don't be surprised if strangers offer you a friendly wave as you pass on the roads...

NO marijuana...please don't even think about using marijuana at my ranch. I know this is debatable...but not at my ranch. No guns, either...

Rural...fewer than 40 people per square mile...mooooo, moooo....

You will need transportation... an all wheel drive or mountain bike can get you to some amazing places in Montana, and an inner tube or canoe can give you a view along a river that you will never see from the highway....Summer is our prime time for road repairs and construction, so if you are here between May-September, plan for possible delays.

Great hiking, lots of local wildlife, and the occasional elk wanders down the road...The Lee Metcalf WIldlife Preserve is located minutes from our location, as well as the newly constructed Bitterroot Bike trail (approximately 50 miles of riding!) The National Bison Reange is approximately an hour from Missoula, as well as Garnet Ghost Town, Rock Creek Fly fishing, The Stevensville Mission, or the historical town of Hamilton. Montana is abundant with wildlife, so please drive carefully and have a safe trip through our beautiful state!

The value of staying with Elliott is that he is a real Renaissance man...a novelist, a defense lawyer, horseman, hiker, chef, medical doctor, lived and hiked in many countries. Elliot's infectious enthusiasm and unpresidented knowledge and exprience in extraordinary number of areas can be very entertaining. He is a true polymath.

I am not sure how to respond. First, there are horses all over the place! Cows, too. This isn't Disneyland. Second, we provide liquid soap. We have a gate because we want privacy... No wrong turns. Every likes the gate. Stay in Minnesota and enjoy the city life. This is very rural. If this is how you felt why did you not mention a word? I am not sure how to interpret your kudos...Are you that insincere?

My stay at Elliott's was delightful. He and Laura were gracious hosts, as we're their four footed friends. The home atmosphere was relaxed, peaceful and afforded solitude. Laughter and good conversation were abundant and enjoyed. Definitely a great way to explore the area and feel you were returning home...many thanks!

We enjoyed our stay very much, and only regret that we didn't get a chance to meet Elliott, who was traveling at the time. That didn't prevent him from making us feel very welcome - he reached out to us several times, and made sure we were in touch with local people who could assist us. The house was clean and comfortable, and the rural property was very relaxing. Plus it was close to nearby amenities, and an easy drive to Missoula. We loved hanging out with his friendly dogs and cats.

Our experience was a little unusual. Pros: The property is beautiful, we loved the location as it's super close to the Bitter Root River and a nice fishing hole; the room and bathroom were nice and clean, the kitchen was good. Cons: Elliot was not there and we didn't have anyone to welcome us into the house. We brought our two dogs with us (and are super appreciative to be able to have them there) but without anyone to help us introduce them to Ollie and Wendy (the giant mastiff and australian shepherd) it made for a number of stressful situations. Ollie and Wendy are really nice, but understandably a little protective of their home when strangers and their dogs show up. The rest of the house smelled really strongly of animal ... but the room was a nice retreat. I think that when Elliot is home, this is probably an excellent place to stay, but without having a host who can help with the dogs, it makes for a little bit of an uncomfortable stay.

One of the nicest aspects of "doing" AirBnB isthat it brings people from all over the world together. It brings together people who wold never meet. I am staying with an AirBnB host in Tel Aviv and we just had a great evening together in her town! It was lovely. When you come back, let me know and we'll BBQ bison steaks... Elliott

I am a novelist and trumpet player and a basic "nice guy." Laura is a social worker, musician, and funny and entertaining. Our ranch is calm and we are calm... we like people and animals. I like to travel, speak Spanish, German, and Hebrew. We are well educated and love movies. We have two dogs, a Pug, Snorty, and Wendy, Aussie Shepherd, and Big, a cat. If you are "pet sensitive," this may not be your "cup of tea." The rooms have a fridge, microwave, and coffee set-up. You may hear me play my trumpet. I am a professional musician and I practice daily but, typically, not when you are around and not at odd hours. Laura plays piano, violin, guitar, and drums, and sings.
