Description

Our magestic window will allow you to enjoy all the moods of the Isle of Skye from morning to night. As the cottage has been renovate you will be able to relax in top quality of a 21st century comfort and the charm of a traditional Scottish cottage.

The cottage has been recently renovated to a really high standard. Its most wonderful double height living space with a spiral stair that leads to the gallery master bedroom; its large, panoramic gable window and all the other many windows letting the light in from every angle and the openness of its architecture, makes our guests feel part of this ever changing scenery.
During the day, enjoy a comfortable read in front of the log fire contemplating from your fabulous view of the shimmering waters of loch Poolteil and the ever changing light illuminating the mountains of Harris and North Uist.
In the evening, cuddle up in an old stone cottage in front of a roasting wood burning stove, a glass of single malt in hand and watching the sun set over the sea between the isle of Skye and the isle of Harris.
The cottage has also stylish bathroom with under-floor heating and heated towel rail and a utility area very handy for all the outdoor gear. We also provide soft cotton bed linen and towels for you to have the best possible holiday.
The cottage sits in a large wild garden with a small stream running through it, and we have some garden furniture for our guests to sit comfortably in the outdoors savouring the even further reaching view of the cliffs, the islands and the sea.
The cottage is located in one of the best areas of Skye to see wild life. The steep cliffs of Glendale are home to thousands of sea birds and this area is undoubtedly the best place on Skye for seeing whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking shark. Seals bask on the skerries in Loch Pooltiel at low tide. Otters can be seen fishing for sea urchins. Sea eagles, golden eagles, buzzards, merlins and kestrels all nest nearby.
Glendale is also renowned for its striking displays of wild flowers, with meadows carpeted with bluebells, orchids, violets and primroses.
If you wish to try some cooking yourself Skye finest products are available nearby at very reasonable prices. Buy fresh lobster or langoustines from the local fisherman at the pier at great prices or vegetabes, fresh produce, free range eggs from the friendly neighbours’ boxes.

Night life
Skye's finest restaurant, the acclaimed Three Chimneys, is about 15 minute drive from our cottage. If you prefer you could organise a taxi to take you there and back. After a beautiful evening meal, you may like to take a night walk as the absence of light pollution makes Glendale an amazing place to watch the Night Sky, with the Milky Way clearly visible after dark and Shooting Stars streaking overhead.

During the Autumn and Spring nights, when conditions are right you may even be lucky to experience one of natures most awesome and rare events over Loch Poolteil the Aurora Borealis .
Diving & Shipwrecks
For those sho seek adventure, the crystal clear waters are excellent for diving and there are a number of well-preserved ship-wrecks nearby, on the ocean floor around the Duirinish Coast. These include the ss Chadwick which ran aground at the mouth of Oisgill Bay in 1892 and the ss Doris which crashed onto Neist Point in 1909.

Winter
Few tourists venture to the Isle of Skye in the Winter months but those that do get to experience Glendale in its magnificent, natural state. The roads are deserted and Skye's major tourist hot-spots, can be just yours. In the evening you can just return to our warm cottage, sit by the fire and read or enjoy one of our very varied selection.

Dunvegan Castle Fireworks
This year the fantastic firework display over Dunvegan Castle and the burning of a replica Viking longship will take place on Saturday November 2nd, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Many of Skye's major tourist attractions are close to the cottage.
Dunvegan Castle, with its landscaped gardens, the famous Fairy Flag, and Seal Boat Trips. is 20 minutes drive
Neist Point, with its Lighthouse and unusual rock formations resembling the Giants' Causeway is 5 minutes drive
Skye Silver, Colbost Croft Museum, The Raven Press, The Glendale Martyrs Monument are between 10-20 minutes drive
At Claigan, you can enjoy the beautiful, white sands at the Coral Beaches is 25 minutes drive
The magnificent mountain-ridge of the Cuillins and the breath-taking, turquoise-blue Fairy Pools are just a 45 minute drive
away.

I have stayed at Danielas place before and loved it so much that I booked it for my dad for his birthday. It is a great little place and we would absolutely go there again ourselves and would highly recommend it

The cottage is pretty perfect to us! It started immediately when we arrived, after a long ride we were welcomed with fresh baked gingerbread and a bottle of wine, what a lovely surprise! A beautiful view and all necessary and luxury items are available in the cottage. We made beautiful walks to Nespoint and the Fairy Pools, we had a tasteful lunch at the Red Roof, went to Steins Inn. And every time the cottage welcomed us home! We had a wonderful stay there and when we come back to the Isle of Skye we definitely will try to book this cosy and well equipped cottage.

The hostes was very good about communication and helping us out in various ways thru the booking process. The whole side of the cottage was a huge picture window, and we did see the Dolphins playing and eating several times. We also saw the seals in loch pooltiel when we went down the road. The sheep were of constant amusement. Bunnies were hopping all over the fields, and we loved looking up at the stars on clear nights. I would be remiss to not mention the ginger bread upon arrival. I tried several since, but have never had one that GREAT! The cottage was very clean and comfortable. It was in pretty good repair.

A lovely, traditional cottage but with 21st century living standards and facilities inside. The view is what is shown in the picture from the large window, where you can watch the Hebrides appear from the clouds, sitting in the comfort of a wood burner heated interior. Everything about the interior has been carefully thought through to enhance the experience and create a home from home. Absolutely delightful! A great place to watch the stars, sunsets, and a short walk to watch seals in the loch. The crofters Andy and Alison Stables produce wonderful vegetables and salad 400m away, and there are two excellent cafes in Glendale. Andy is also the man who knows about auroras ( and the shop and post office has everything you would want for a week or two and is a real link pin in the community. The walks are amazing with the 300m Waterstein cliffs within an hour. Running round the Milovaig loop is about 4k of undulating road, or you could just sit and watch the view from the lounge! Daniela is a thoughtful and efficient host, with good support she can quickly call upon to sort out any issues. The wifi is excellent, but be aware that mobile phone signal is almost non-existent.

When we arrived there was a lovely cake and a bottle of delicious white wine in the fridge. The view from the big window was wonderful. And as I have asthma it was so good to find wooden and tile floors everywhere. The second kitchen was great and very convenient! It was a delight for us to find a garden full of wild flowers. And it was also good to have wifi. Thankfully our son was staying at Granny Mary's Cottage nearby, with his two young children, so he could help us out now and then with our digital problems. The location of the cottage is wonderful. The little harbor nearby, Neist Point and lots of galleries and cafes in Glendale. And what a speciality, our 7 year old granddaughter said, sheep and cows can roam freely. And humans sit in gardens with fences and gates if they don't want cattle in!!!! Our holiday in Glendale was wonderful!!!

I work for Edinburgh University, in the office of Life Long Learning (OLL). As a Spanish Language Coordinator. I have been working in the holiday letting business since 2009. When we started to let another property we have in Skye. Thanks to this experience I realised how rewarding is to help people have a great holiday. I have enjoyed enormously meeting people from all over the world and of all ages. It has enriched my life in many ways.
I felt in love with Edinburgh the first day I arrived 20 years ago, since then I have enjoyed selling it as a great holiday destination and a wonderful place to live in. We were very lucky to be able to buy a flat in one of the best spots to both enjoy the centre of this beautiful town and at the same time being able to relax and just watch the world go by. I hope we can make your holiday a great experience and that you leave Edinburgh looking forward to your next visit.
