I was really sorry to hear that Valeria didn’t enjoy her stay – unlike every single one of my previous guests (including families) who had only good things to say. As for her points, I tried to accommodate as best as I could, even going out of my way to buy a crib and high chair for her child (which I did not own previously), and Valeria said she was happy to cover the small cost of sourcing these. Valeria at no point mentioned that anything was wrong despite our regular (Hidden by Airbnb) communication. The sheets were not stale. I laundered them and made the bed myself; and in any case I would have happily arranged for laundry if this had been mentioned. Valeria and her friends helped themselves to 6 bottles of wine and port without thinking to check if this was OK, and broke some crystal wine glasses, without saying anything.
I am very generous with my guests: I left many oranges & clementines for juice (which were used), allowed an additional friend of theirs to stay without charging the usual nominal extra fee, and left flowers and a welcome gift. I trust my guests’ discretion and am very happy for guests to make full use of anything on the usual grocery list: coffee, tea, condiments, spreads, herbs, oil, snacks etc., and only ask guests to either use&replace, or to just ask me about, any higher ticket items. This has not been an issue in the past. As a goodwill gesture I ignored the wine and glasses, and only requested a minimum amount for the port, which was special to me since it cannot be bought locally.
