Well, where to begin. The place is exactly as it looks, the location is lovely. The hammock is comfy, and the howler monkeys are a treat. That is where the nice part ends. The host however, was scary. And is in fact threatening me in messages as I type this. So here goes a detailed account. The first night I was up most of the night because there was a neighboring dog barking and starting a chorus with the dogs who live on the property. This went on most of the night. I came here looking for rest, and was now wondering if this was the norm. When I asked Michele this question in the morning, he responded as though I was the problem, saying that this is why we have dogs, because they bark, and that no, he wouldn't be asking the neighbors to quiet their dog. I had not asked that the dogs be silenced, I merely asked if this was the norm. Because if it was, I would have had time to cancel my reservation that day since we have 24 hours to do so, and attempt to find another place. Mind you, I was here with my own dog, who is TRAINED to alert me to sounds, and he didn't join this chorus. It is very hot in Cahuita. That I knew, and was grateful to find an oscillating fan in my room. When I turned it on, it made repeating whirring sounds that rang out through the high ceilinged room. I asked whether it would be ok for me to try to fix the fan, or if there was another fan that didn't make the sounds. The answer was no, and that he would fix the fan in the morning. This never happened, and I was stuck with either a sweat box, or sleeping next to what felt like a factory fan, all crusted with rust and dust. I have a photo if you'd like to see it. Speaking of dust, the night stand and chairs in the room were covered in it. The floors were covered in a layer of it as well. I later discovered that Michele's dogs had fleas, and tried every which way to keep my dog away from them. On my last trip to CR, we ended up with fleas of the hardiest kind that took many months to get rid of after we got home. Looks like we are about to deal with the same thing as I have been finding fleas all day today. The kitchen was ok, but the gas had not been turned on for the stove, and a plastic bag full of something with ants underneath it was left next to the refrigerator. The sink was dripping constantly, and Michele had apologized for not having gotten to fixing it. I had no problem with this. But wondered if the ants would be a problem since a previous review stated as much. So I kept all...

We had a very nice and calm days staying here. Lots of useful stuff in house and comfortable bed. No mosquitos in the house (nets) and even few on open terrace. Rather fast internet (5/2 mbps in/out) and big table on terrace.

We had an amaizing time at the bungalow. Altough Michèle was on italy while we were there, his mom and friend stefano took good care of us! There's a close access to à beautiful beach. The torrent and wAves were strong but we were Alone most of the time si it was really peaceful. We spent a day in puerto viejo just to feel the carabeen rasta vibe. In the end, we were glad to return to cahuita wich is a lot more quiet with less turists. Thank you for an unforgettable time!

We stayed here for about a month. We selected this property because of it's kitchen facilities and proximity to the beach/rainforest. The purpose of the visit was not for vacation per se…we're touring with an entertainment company and were on a break. At first glance, everything seemed as expected: unglamorous but solid.  We expected things to be basic at this price point.  However, there were some serious problems and shortfalls.  The mini-fridge was so grossly mouldy it didn't close properly, and in this humid climate, that also meant that the freezer compartment rapidly filled with ice, which then melted all over anything in the fridge.   The toaster pictured was gone, the utensils rusted. The frying pan was sticky, and the one spatula so floppy-handled that it was useless.  There was a determined ant infestation finding a new route into the kitchen daily.  So, despite the existence of a kitchen, it was neither practical nor sanitary.  The bathroom was also not without problems - when the handheld shower spigot was activated, it reeked of sewage.  Mildew was a problem throughout - the fridge, as mentioned, the kitchen grout.  The level of presence so high that given a few days, unwashed, the sheets visibly developed spots.  Note that on long term stays, the room is serviced weekly. Prior to booking, we had mentioned to Michele that we would not have a car for the duration. He mentioned that he had bikes available, so therefore it would not be a problem. However, one bike had a broken saddle, the other had a chain that broke within a couple of days, whilst we were at quite a distance. Michele had minimal tools for repairs. Although the town of Cahuita is within fairly close proximity, the facilities are limited. The only ATM, for instance, didn't accept my bank card, necessitating a visit to Puerto Viejo, far less accessible by bike. Bus service is unreliable and infrequent. So…we were stranded with no bikes and no car. We rented a car for a couple of weeks. I needed to fly home to the UK for a family emergency, and informed Michele that my wife would be alone for the duration of the stay. He assured me that he and his mother would take care of her during my absence. Because I needed to return the car, I asked whether the broken bike was fixed and available. We were informed that one bike had been repaired and lent to another new guest, and that the other one had been sold. So my wife was once again without transport. All that having been said, the property location and surrounding area was quite beautiful. Sloths in the garden, the beautiful sounds of insects, frogs and howler monkeys filling the night sky. Taxis/car rental are very expensive and cars are rarely available at short notice. Longer-term discounted bike rental is available a short distance up the road. However, I cannot recommend this property for any longer than a short term...

I always repeat to talk with me. This is clearly written in the house rules. Only having a dialogue with my guests I can do my better to make them feel at ease. I really do not understand and i feel so dispirited reading that words. I don't want to reply about bikes or taking care of Roger's wife...
