Camping doesn’t get more romantic or zen than in our exotic Ruby Yurt, where ethnic furnishings are subtly complimented by modern luxuries - including your own private hot tub / jacuzzi. The yurt is located in a quieter corner of our small green-field campsite, on the edge of our woods.

Le logement
An eclectic mix of furnishings enhance the exotic ambience of the yurt, and provide a cozy cocoon of peaceful tranquility - so that, immediately upon entering, your mind and body feel calmed and relaxed.

The yurt has a comfy double bed (with electric blanket). The bed has fluffy pillows, duvet and sheets - so that you can stay comfy and cosy, whatever the weather. Lighting can be so atmospheric - and the yurt's selection of oriental lanterns allows you to create a variety of lighting moods. A chest of drawers, two bedside cabinets and an ottoman provide adequate storage.

The hot tub / jacuzzi is adjacent to the yurt and is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and simply gaze at the stars. Lie back and allow the jets to soothe away all your tension - then step out and into your soft warm bathrobe and slip back into your yurt refreshed and calmed and ready for a peaceful night's sleep.

The kitchen is a 20 second walk away in a wooden outbuilding. It has a fridge freezer, mini oven, microwave and a two-ring induction hob. A table-top gas barbecue is also available for when you fancy eating alfresco.

Meanwhile, the shared facilities are a short walk (15 seconds) from the yurt, down a flight of 12 steps. Here you'll find powerful hot showers plus bright and modern toilets and wash basins - all colour-coded to provide dedicated shower, toilet and washbasin facilities for each yurt.

It's easy to forget, when staying here, that 'glamping' is a more refined way of camping. However, it is important to remember that you will be living very close to nature and woodland wildlife - not in a city hotel. We are always on hand and happy to sort out any little issues you might have so that they never become a major problem that could spoil your stay with us.

Où se situe le logement

Saint-Junien-la-Brégère, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

We are located 1500 metres south of St Junien la Brégère. Whilst benefiting from rural woodland surroundings, our location also offers easy access to the region's towns, villages and varied attractions as well as the picturesque Limousin countryside.

The medieval town of Bourganeuf, with its historic Zizim Tower is less than 15 minutes away. The cafe culture is quite evident in this small town with several cafes offering coffees, wines and snacks - and outdoor seating for people watching. There are also two fair-sized supermarkets, Carrefour and Aldi, offering a decent selection of well-priced essentials and luxury items.

Meanwhile, 8 km in the other direction, you'll find Peyrat-le-Château, a small historic and picturesque town which sits on a lake with a sandy beach and children's play area. Other points of interest include a fourteenth century castle keep tower, a resistance museum and the Quenouille site (a burial mound of dry stone that probably dates from the Iron Age) worth a detour. The path of the poets, with its granite sculptures, will take you to Lake Vassivière - but is a fair hike I'm told.

The spectacular Lake Vassiviere with its sandy beaches, restaurants, bars, water sports and other activities is just a 20 minute drive away and perfect for a day out.

Les Loups de Chabrières (The Wolf Sanctuary) is around 30 km away. This fascinating park provides the opportunity to see wolves in the near wild, and to learn about them. It opens every day from February to early December.

In addition, there's a multitude of picturesque and historic villages and hamlets to discover in the surrounding area - not to mention the abundant wildlife and natural lush beauty of the region.

We are located within the region known as the Plateau de Millevaches which translates literally into Plateau of a Thousand Cows… What a splendid name for a splendid region! However, cows had nothing to do with its name. Millevaches indeed evolved from vacca, a local Patois word meaning water spring. Mille comes from mille meaning thousand. The name refers to the region's countless streams and natural ponds and lakes.

The Plateau de Millevaches is also the region where the rivers Vézère, Vienne and Corrèze originate! The Plateau de Millevaches is therefore the Plateau des Mille Sources – Plateau of a Thousand Springs! The region is also considered the Château d'Eau de la France - France's Water Tower. Indeed, large dams and man-made lakes were built in order to channelize and collect all this water. This includes Lac de Vassivière, which is less than 20 minutes by car from Camping les Chenauds.

Finally, the Plateau de Millevaches is also known as Montagne Limousine - Limousin Mountain. Indeed, this large granite plateau forms the north-western boundary of the Massif Central and is the highest area in the Limousin.

The Plateau de Millevaches is a land of wooded rolling hills delineated by valleys. The presence of moraine and various glacial landforms produced by glacial erosion, then the torrential rains, show that the Plateau de Millevaches was formed during the Ice Age. This vast granite plateau originally peaked about 1100m above sea level, then was eroded over the millennia. The altitude of the Plateau de Millevaches today ranges from 500m to over 900m.

This superb mountainous region has a continental climate. Winters are therefore harsh, snow often falls in early spring; summers are hot and sometimes stormy. And if you enjoy the magical beauty of Indian Summers, you must then visit the Plateau de Millevaches in autumn; you won't be disappointed!

Hiking or biking is the best way to visit and fully appreciate the region. You'll indeed come across ancient crossroads marked with monumental crosses, medieval bridges spanning the thousand streams and rivers, and many fountains and wells. You'll also discover lovely hamlets; most still have their community bread ovens. Peasants came from the surrounding farms in order to bake the bread and pies that would last them the month. This gathering was also the opportunity to catch up on local gossip!

My partner Steve and I have lived here in this magnificent part of rural France for 5 years and love everything about it. We can't imagine living anywhere else now - or not having guests from all over the world to share it with. I love hosting and being a member of the Airbnb community. It is therefore with regret that I must say, this year, to protect both my clients and my own family, I can only offer one of our two yurts for hire. This is primarily to maintain social distancing and hygiene protocols in our kitchen and swimming pool areas. It also means that you get to have our 5 acre property to yourself - with no sharing! Although my French is not perfect - or complete - I speak and understand enough to ensure your stay with me will be a happy and memorable one. I look forward to meeting you soon :)

We love our two yurts and are very pleased and proud to share them with our guests who come from all over the world to stay here. We're always on hand, if needed, but try not to intrude on your privacy unless you need us. It's the perfect place to relax and unwind. Should you decide to explore further afield, however, we have lots of local knowledge and a good selection of tourist brochures to help you to get the most from your holiday. Just ask - we're always delighted to offer advice, recommendations and an armful or two of brochures.
