Arao is a tiny village with a cluster of small holdings and our very own local pub! A car is advised as the nearest market is in the next village, approx. 3kms away.
Quinta do Arão, Arão, Mexilhoeira Grande 8500, Portimão, Algarve
Directions from Faro Airport to Quinta do Arão - We are situated 45 minutes drive west of Faro airport - approximately 70km.
1. Exit the airport car park. Keep in the right hand lane and take the signs for A22 towards Faro, then A22 Portimão.
(3 minutes into journey)
2. Just after the "zone industrial" sign, come off and follow the signs for A22 to Lisbon/Portimão - this junction comes on you quickly, take care of traffic joining.
3. Take the sign for A22 Lisboa/Portimão/Albufeira.
4. Once on the motorway there are about 70kms west to travel along the A22.
5. Continue to take the signs for A22 Lagos and Portimão.
6. Continue along the A22 past Portimão and Alvor.
7. Turn off at Junction Mexilhoeira Grande / Autodromo.
8. Keep to the right hand side of the road and follow the orange signs to the Autodromo.
9. At the round-about take the 3rd exit to Vale da Fonte.
10. Follow the narrow country road for about 1km.
11. You will pass a few houses on both sides of the road.

One has to go into Faro to get to the train station, which is located within 50 metres of the bus terminal. The 'Linha do Algarve' is slow but perhaps more enjoyable than taking the bus. The journey to Lagos takes about one and half hours, winding its way through the countryside before following the coastline from Alvor bay. The last direct train is in the early afternoon so this journey would only be possible for those arriving in Faro on a morning flight. The best option would be to take the train directly through to Lagos station and catch a taxi to Quinta do Arão from there.
The train journey from Lisbon is also very scenic and should not be discounted. The trains are very modern, clean, comfortable and the ticket price is very reasonable. There is only one change over on the Lisbon to Lagos route and that is in Tunes.
Taxis are available from the airport at a cost of about 70 Euros one way (season depending).
There are no direct bus routes from the airport; one has to transfer to the bus terminal (Estação Rodoviária) in Faro. The bus stop for the transfer to Faro bus station is right outside the airport terminal and the timetable is posted on the sign. Buses are usually every half hour. It's a 10-15 minute journey into Faro and you are dropped a few yards from the coach station. Inside there is a digital timetable of destinations and coach numbers and the ticket kiosk is opposite that.

2. For leaving the property in a clean and tidy condition.

Travel is a big part of my life. In 2008 I decided to sell my flat in London, pack up all my things and take off to travel around the world for a year. It was the best thing I could have ever done. It changed my life. Since then, I have settled in the Algarve, Portugal on our beautiful family estate - a 6 hectare orgainc citrus farm on the best sunshine coast in Europe!
I started up a business with my family on our farm restoring 3 beautiful apartments that we now rent out to wonderful people like you. We put the emphasis on eco friendly - all our water is solar heated and we do not use fertilzers or chemicals on our trees. We let nature take it's rightful course.
Our hosting style is very relaxed and we hope our guests will take with them a calm and relaxing memory of our tranquil, peaceful setting.
In addition to renting out our apartments, I take guests on tours to stunning locations such as the beautiful West coast beaches, the majestic Monchique mountains, local vineyards and champagne sunsets in Sagres, Europes most Southern tip. I'm happy to arrange personalised tours too, just ask!
