Secluded, well-appointed, off-grid cabin right on Tarryall Creek, with more than 5 acres of solitude and 360-degree mountain views. This is our dream place to escape, unwind, and listen to the creek. It's remote and quiet, but accessible year-round: 2 hours from DIA, 1.5 hours from downtown Denver, and 50-mins from Breckenridge. Newly renovated with large kitchen (and antique 1920s stove), barnwood accents, huge 450sf deck, and historic decor from Como's gold rush. Dogs welcome, too.

Le logement
Our cabin sits on five acres at 10,600 feet elevation. We're close to Denver, Breckenridge, and Fairplay... but surrounded by so much national forest you could say we perfected social distancing.

Our cabin is just under 1,000sf, but it feels nice and roomy with a large living area and great kitchen. The bedroom is cozy, with a fantastic view of Mt. Little Baldy out the window and the sound of Tarryall Creek when the weather's warm enough to crack the window.

We're off-grid up here. Solar powers the cabin, so you have to watch your energy consumption, especially in winter. But propane heats the water and shower, and provides back-up heat to the cabin itself. (We much prefer the woodstove, which glows hypnotically when lit and provides a nice even heat throughout the cabin). Cell phone service is hard to come by, but we have a landline for emergency and local calls, and you can get cell signal about 2 miles back down the road.

So far, all of our guests have loved it here. Our cabin has seen engagements and elopements, and many more honeymoons, anniversaries, and birthdays. An album was written here, and a couple books, too. But most of our guests just come up for fun and relaxation.

Coronavirus note:

We're doing our best to keep our cabin clean and safe during this uncertain time. We've changed our booking policy to add flexibility to accommodate your needs and safety.

Also, for the safety of all our guests, if you've shown symptoms of covid-19 or if you've been exposed to others who have, please follow the CDC's recommendations for home isolation before traveling. If you need to cancel or change dates to help us all stay safe, I'll do what I can to accommodate you. If you have questions or would like help finding resources, please do reach out. And stay healthy out there, ok?

Accès des voyageurs
You have full access to the main part of the cabin, but we ask that you leave the loft alone unless we chat about it beforehand.

Autres remarques
The cabin is fully stocked with everything you need for cooking (I used to be a chef, many moons ago). It also has firewood (though we recommend you bring a bundle plus newspaper to get the first fire rolling).

After first snow fall, in winter (Oct-Apr), 4 wheel drive is required, and high clearance strongly recommended. The main road is plowed, but wind can create drifts at any time.

We allow booking up to 6 months in advance. So if it looks closed to reservations, check the date. It may open up at the 6-month mark.

It's quiet around here, all right. You will see the occasional person coming to hike the Gold Dust trail (just down the road) or a neighbor going for a walk, but it's not unusual to have the day fully to yourself -- especially fall, winter, and spring, when it is magically peaceful.

My wife and I are history teachers and we love the mountains. We moved to Colorado with our kids six years ago.... and will never leave! We're not natives, but we're working on it! We bought this cabin so we can escape to the mountains as much as we can. It's a short drive for us, and we sneak away whenever work and school allow. We love just relaxing up there. If we head up for even just one night, it feels like we've been gone a week!

We live in Golden, so we'll give you space! If you need something special, we'll do what we can to help you, though. There's a landline at the cabin you can use to call us if needed.
